About the role

Red Hat’s Workload Management organization is looking for a Principal Software and Systems Engineer/Administrator to join us remotely from US or other Red Hat office locations. In this role, you will help provide technical and strategic expertise for Infrastructure-as-a-Service solutions and manage infrastructure  that internal product and global engineering organizations utilize. You'll help architect, design, build, and manage our infrastructure platform services including storage, compute, and IaaS offerings (Datacenter and l Hyperscaler cloud platforms and other niche Clouds). You will help define the practices that simplify the processes and practices that simplify the services that Workload Management offers.

What You Will Do:

  • Architect, design, build, customize, manage and administer large scale infrastructure and platform services including AI Technologies, public cloud, private cloud, and datacenter services for P+GE organization and beyond for Red Hat.

  • Strong experience with managing Hyper Clouds like AWS, GCP, Azure, IBM Cloud and adopting similar Cloud administration strategies to onboard Gov Clouds and Niche clouds. 

  • Design a complete and complex framework for infrastructure and automation of administration and management of infrastructure. Use languages or tools like Python, GO, Puppet, Terraform and Ansible. 

  • Architect and deliver services and tools needed to manage infrastructure efficiency and in a cost effective manner. Maintain high availability of the infrastructure with no downtime.

  • Defines processes and runbooks to scale the infrastructure and system specifications based on diverse usage of the P+GE community. 

  • Provides multi-layered technical expertise for next generation initiatives to support growing Red Hat Products and Engineering organization.

  • Develop new services and capabilities to support a Hybrid Data Center model suitable for Red Hat P+GE (Support environments for  Development, QE, CEE, CI, UX, Software production teams).

  • Evaluate, architect and implement and integrate tools like Bugzilla, Slack, JIRA, Github across multiple organizations 

Leadership:

  • Work to supply strategic direction to meet and enable Red Hat business goals for a group of technical Cloud Operational specialists across different business units. 

  • Partner with business groups to consult on technical solutions which drives the business forward.

  • Act as SME and an escalation point to Senior and junior system engineers.

  • Backlog management and prioritize backlog to roll out initiatives across products and global engineering teams.

  • Write proposals and papers and communicate with Internal customers and vendors.

  • Make presentations to client audiences or professional peers.

Mentoring:

  • Provide mentorship to other staff members on the team and across the department.

  • Provide technical guidance and influence the career development of Junior engineers.

What You Bring

  • 15+ years in a systems or software engineering role in the infrastructure space

  • 10+ years providing technical direction to two or more engineering teams

  • Experience in automation of cloud and on-prem technologies (eg. Ansible, Puppet, CloudForms, AWS, GCP, etc.)

  • Proven leadership in public cloud providers, specifically AWS, Google, Azure or others

  • Understanding of dependencies across the infrastructure stack

  • Experience with systems and IT operations

  • Experience with infrastructure (storage, compute, networking) performance and capacity monitoring techniques

  • Understanding with data protection and data resiliency technologies and practices

  • Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and tools

  • Ability to code and script; Python + Bash (as must); Ruby, Go (nice to have)

  • Experience with application development lifecycle, release engineering and/or CI/CD technologies and processes a plus

  • Demonstrated track record of mentoring peers in areas of expertise

  • Track record of providing technical overview of clients
