Job Summary: The Safety Director will oversee all aspects of achieving the Company’s HSE program objectives. Pay will commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities: Includes but is not limited to the job specifications contained herein. Additional duties or job functions may be required as deemed necessary by management personnel.
- Serve as a Corporate representative for the Safety Program, both in the field and at our branches throughout Florida and Alabama.
- Facilitate positive interactions with employees and managers while simultaneously asserting themselves as a safety authority.
- Promote and reinforce positive safety culture through frequent interactions with personnel at all levels.
- Manage a team of at least 4 direct reports.
- Conduct and oversee jobsite assessments, facility inspections, and safety meetings.
- Analyze field assessments to identify trends and deliver insights to senior management.
- Develop Hazard / Risk Mitigation plans based on hazards identified.
- Supervise safety incentive programs.
- Supervise management of claims, including Auto, Workman’s Comp, General Liability.
- Oversee heavy equipment safety procedures
- Ensure CDL driver compliance, including E-logs, DVIR, cargo securement, and all FMCSA regulations.
- Work closely with Fleet Manager to ensure 100% compliance with all FMCSA and Acme Barricades driver / fleet compliance requirements.
- Assist with new-hire training to establish consistent and effective onboarding procedures.
- Develop and conduct training for managers, equipment operators and drivers to ensure safe operation and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Contribute ideas and recommend programs that aid in achieving safety and compliance objectives.
- Complete Safety Training and / or Certification as required by Manager.
- Requires 30-60% travel throughout Florida and Alabama.
- Facilitate ongoing development and implementation of new, web-based safety performance and claim reporting dashboard.
- Set goals and objectives for improving upon safety performance.
- Prepare reports as requested.
- Oversee incident investigations, and ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping as required by Acme Barricades, OSHA, FMCSA and any other governing agencies.
- Works with HR and field operations to address and resolve employee safety & health concerns.
- Develop, update and maintain the company Safety Manual.
- Review accident investigation reports and conduct root-cause analysis to prevent recurring injuries, incidents, and accidents.
- Recommend, develop and implement new training programs as needed.

Requirements
Skills:
- Expert knowledge of OSHA regulations, including but not limited to Cranes & Derricks, Fall Protection, Heat Illness, Forklifts, Job Hazard Analysis, PPE selection and use, Ladder Safety, Hazard Communication, LOTO.
- Expert knowledge of FMCSA regulations, including but not limited to CDL requirements, Driver Qualifications, ELDs, Hours-of-Service, DVIRs, Cargo Securement, D&A Testing.
- Highly Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and other common business software applications.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and organizational skills.
- Effective and persuasive presenter.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to develop & maintain positive relationships with internal management & external customers.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.
- Self-directed. Must be able to identify problems and implement solutions with limited oversight.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field preferred.
- Professional certifications / credentials preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (read/write/speak fluently) preferred.
- Enthusiastic about improving the safety and health of Acme’s workforce.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in safety in a related field, including but not limited to general construction industry, highway maintenance, transportation construction.
- Experience in Maintenance of Traffic, MOT Advanced Certificate desired.
