The Team:

Mental Health Strategy and Reform (MHSR) is a central business unit within Statewide Mental Health Services (SMHS) under the Community Mental Health and Wellbeing (CMHW) portfolio of the Department of Health, Tasmania (the Department). 

MHSR works across the Department to drive improvements in mental health, alcohol and drug services delivered in the public health, hospital, and community settings.

Using co-design and evidence-based practice, MHSR supports policy development, project planning and delivery, guided by strategic priorities to meet the evolving needs of the Tasmanian community.

The Role:

The Principal Policy Officer will provide high-level analysis, strategic advice, leadership and direction, in the planning, development, implementation, management and delivery of key strategic policy, programs and initiatives related to Statewide Mental Health Services (SMHS), alcohol and other drugs (AOD) and the mental health community sector. The position will lead the development of Tasmania's next mental health strategy, including a broad consultation process and drafting the strategy.

You will need:

• Extensive specialist knowledge and experience in public policy analysis, including the development and implementation, strategic planning, research and evaluation of policy related work within a complex organisational environment.
• High level interpersonal skills, including verbal and written, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with staff at all levels to achieve organisational outcomes, and proven capacity to represent the Agency on relevant committees and in other forums.
• High level conflict resolution and negotiation skills, including experience conducting and committing to negotiated outcomes.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a 12-month period. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary: $128,102 to $134,832 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
