Social Worker - OB/GYN

Working under general direction, coordinates and provides social services for patients of all ages, applying principles of a highly professional field. Services are provides in accordance with the philosophy, mission, standards, policies, and procedures of the home health service and as ordered by the physician; and other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Master’s degree in Social Work
• Minimum of two years experience in social work with broad background with diverse patient populations, preferably in medical setting
• Additional one year experience in area of specialty
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) certification is required

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Develops and maintains social service program, drafting supporting policies, procedures, and guidelines for the program.

2. Assesses patients’ psychosocial status. Communicates with physicians to report patient progress, needs, concerns, and potential and actual problems.

3. Works closely with all members of the health care team in development of the plan of treatment, including discharge plans, based on the psychosocial assessment and accepted social work interventions.

4. Provides social work services including short-term individual counseling, community resource planning and crisis intervention.

5. Develops and maintains thorough knowledge of referral resources throughout the service area.

6. Develops working relationship with leaders in community resource groups, representing agency at meetings and on various committees which address social needs of patients, such as Council on Aging, Development Services, etc.

7. Acts as a resource person for other members of the health care team, providing in-service education and consultation in understanding the social and emotional factors related to health problems.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
