JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective: Working under the supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist, provide education and therapy intervention to students with identified speech and language disorders.

Essential Job Functions:
• Adapts educational materials and equipment for the purpose of providing intervention and/or meeting individual student needs.
• Collects data on student achievement in the speech/language areas for the purpose of documenting growth, progress towards IEP goals and reporting such as Medicaid.
• Assists in facilitating communication between SLPs, site staff, parents (as requested) regarding student performance, progress and goals.
• Provide direct instruction designed by the SLP for the purpose of implementing goals for the remediation of speech and language deficits.
• Assist in the implementation of augmentative communication devices and strategies with individual students whose IEP requires them.
• Assist SLP in securing necessary assessments and materials.
• Participates in in-service trainings and workshops as requested, and parent/staff meetings when invited by the SLP.
• Performs other duties as may be assigned.
 
Additional Qualifications: Specific skills needed include using pertinent software equipment and technology, preparing and maintaining accurate records and implementing instructional strategies as defined by the SLP. The SLPA will be expected to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.  Specific knowledge required for the position includes an understanding of articulation, language fluency and oral motor therapy and assistive technology.  Basic understanding of sign language is preferred, but not required.  Flexibility is a critical skill needed, along with the ability to work with a diverse group of students and adults.  Problem identification and solving skills are required, along with the need to consult with the SLP when problems occur.  Maintaining confidentiality is critical for this position.

Work Environment/ Physical Demands: Ability to sit for long periods of time, numerous distractions, visual, auditory and ambulatory acuity important.  Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
 
Travel:  Some may be required.
