The Denver Department of Public Safety is seeking a new member to join the Street Engagement Team (SET). This team is composed of unarmed civilian personnel responsible for enforcing quality-of-life ordinances throughout the City and County of Denver. While members of SET will have the authority to issue citations for various ordinance violations, they will not have the authority to make arrests.

The Street Engagement Liaison will promote public safety by conducting proactive patrols and enforcing city ordinances while providing exceptional customer service during interactions with the community. Team members will receive training in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques. The Street Engagement Team will operate on varied schedules, including evening and weekend shifts.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding communication and customer service skills, with the ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations. Experience in safety, compliance, enforcement, or a related field is highly valued. This role also requires a collaborative team player who approaches problem-solving with sound judgment, flexibility, and a practical mindset.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with availability on weekends and occasional mandatory overtime.

Job Responsibilities:

• Patrols designated areas of the city by foot and/or vehicle, serving as a visible presence to deter code violations. Remains vigilant to potential hazards, including working in isolated locations and interacting with individuals who may be emotionally distressed or confrontational.

• Prepares documents and testimony for court or administrative hearings, including incident reports and narratives.

• Collaborates with law enforcement personnel to share information, request backup, and coordinate support during enforcement activities and public safety emergencies.

• Enforces parking regulations by issuing warnings, notices, and citations for violations. Explains parking codes and regulations to the public and provides information about state and city parking rules.

• Uses a two-way radio to report enforcement details, request assistance, and receive dispatch orders, while also operating hand-held computers and printers to issue citations.

• Interact with the public to increase awareness of City ordinances.

• Engages with a diverse, multi-lingual community and represents the department at a variety of public events.

• Collaborates effectively with teams, including agencies, partners, law enforcement, fire/EMS, and park rangers, to complete both large and small tasks.

• Uses various computer programs to create logs and reports to track and document field work.

• Work long, demanding hours while maintaining safety, a positive attitude, and focus; performs duties in adverse weather conditions and stands or walks for extended periods.

• Understanding of safety hazards and the required precautions to create a safe environment for oneself and others.

• Capable of engaging with community members in a friendly and professional manner, addressing issues quickly and efficiently, while demonstrating a strong understanding of public codes and policies.

• Proficiency in applying existing guidelines or suggesting new approaches to develop and modify work plans, methods, and procedures for the work unit or function.

• A strong ability to assess risks, evaluate options, and select the best alternative to make decisions, draw conclusions, or solve problems.

• Capable of learning how to effectively use a two-way radio in accordance with City communication procedures.

• Ability to learn how to use pepper spray and other defensive equipment appropriately.

• Ability to learn and retain CPR and first aid techniques necessary to perform lifesaving measures and provide first aid when required.

Below are the minimum requirements used to determine eligibility for this position:

• Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

• Experience Requirement: One (1) year experience in public relations, or regulation compliance experience.

• Education and Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.

• License/Certification Requirement: Must possess a valid code enforcement
