About the role

Description

The Association Director of Literacy is responsible for the successful planning and implementation of key literacy partnerships, including but not limited to the New World’s Reading Initiative, Charlotte Reads, Y-READS!!, and the Patterson Foundation Summer Reading Challenge. This role involves collaboration with community partners, management of staff and volunteers, and a commitment to enhancing literacy skills among children and families in Southwest Florida. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in literacy education, project and event management, volunteer management, and community engagement.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


New Worlds Reading Initiative Partner:

Plan, host, and facilitate educational workshops for parents and families to support children's literacy skills and community literacy events to teach the community about the New Worlds Reading Initiative.

  • Manage project planning, reporting, and fiscal responsibilities for the initiative.
  • Collaborate with the Florida State Alliance of YMCAs, attending required meetings and technical and literacy training.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with local school districts, community partners, and families to expand the initiative's reach.
  • Collect and analyze data on event attendance, devising strategies to increase family participation.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers and part-time staff for events.
  • Travel 30-40% of the time for events, meetings with school districts, and partnerships.
  • Ensure compliance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the State Alliance and the YMCA of Southwest Florida.

Charlotte Reads Partner:

  • Oversee the planning and execution of the Charlotte Reads program in Charlotte County.
  • Elevate current partnerships with the Boys and Girls Club of Charlotte County, United Way, Charlotte County Schools and potential reading buddies.
  • Actively recruit and maintain volunteers for the Charlotte Reads program.
  • Manage part-time staff and volunteers to facilitate reading programs and activities at after-school sites.
  • Ensure compliance with the MOU between Charlotte Reads and the YMCA of Southwest Florida.
  • Ensure all reporting is done in a timely manner and in accordance with Charlotte Reads’ requirements.


Y-READS!! Partner:


Oversee the planning and implementation of the Y-READS!! Program across YMCA of Southwest Florida.

Manage full-time and part-time staff at four school sites.

Establish and maintain partnerships with school leaders, teachers, and families.

Maintain accurate records and documentation for the Y-READS!! Program.

Recruit and train volunteers to support the program.

Collaborate with Florida State Alliance of YMCAs to ensure high quality standards for program, submit records in a timely manner, and ensure YMCA of Southwest Florida is in compliance with all standards set by the Alliance.


Patterson Foundation Partner:

  • Foster a positive relationship with the Patterson Foundation.
  • Assist in implementing the Suncoast Remake Learning Days and Suncoast Summer Reading Challenge.
  • Ensure branch-level leadership complies with all Patterson Foundation programs and events.
  • Ensure timely reporting by branch-level leadership for Patterson Foundation programs and events.


OTHER DUTIES:

Implement a dynamic training program to ensure YMCA of Southwest Florida staff are proficient in literacy education.

Develop systems and relationships to track student data and improve reading skills across the Association.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Literacy, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in literacy education or a related field.
  • Proven experience in project management and community partnership development.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis.
  • Experience in volunteer recruitment and management.
  • Ability to travel 30-40% of the time and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed to support the programs.


CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications required.
  • Annual Completion of YMCA Compliance Trainings
  • Successfully meet the Association’s policies on background screening.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
