About the team

We are a team of fun and skilled accounting professionals within the Controller organization operating in an innovative, fast-paced tech and media company. We work in a highly collaborative environment and engage directly with teams throughout the Finance organization (including Financial Reporting, Tax, Technical Accounting, Revenue, and FP&A), as well as Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Corporate Applications teams across various product lines.

SPECIFICALLY, OUR TEAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- Completing month-end close responsibilities including preparing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Participating in the annual audit and quarterly reviews performed by our auditors, including walkthroughs and the preparation of PBCs
- Finance integration of new activity, including the creation of new processes and GL close activities and ensuring SOX readiness

About the role

Zillow Group is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Corporate Accounting team. Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Accounting, this position is responsible for overseeing various areas within Expenses, Assets, and Liabilities. This position requires knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, an interest in corporate accounting, and motivation to contribute to a constantly evolving business.

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare and/or review journal entries and account reconciliations as part of the month-end close process
  • Analyze financial data and report financial results back to management
  • Build operational and internal control processes for new and evolving aspects of the business while ensuring SOX readiness
  • Lead investigations into and prepare flux analysis for balance sheet and/or income statement accounts
  • Coach and mentor Accountants
  • Drive process improvement projects to streamline and automate manual workflows
  • Produce a high volume of work under a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Provide support to finance management and other internal customers, including ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is $73,900.00 - $118,100.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York and Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance or Accounting
  • CPA, with solid understanding of GAAP, preferred
  • Experience reviewing journal entries and reconciliations with a critical approach
  • 4+ years’ experience in public accounting, mid-to-large sized tech or high-growth company
  • Experience using sophisticated Excel functions, with an interest and aptitude analyzing large amounts of data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present findings and interact at all levels of the organization
  • Outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excels in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving, and data-driven organization
  • Able to work with a high sense of urgency while maintaining outstanding attention to detail
  • Applies a proactive approach and can think creatively and learn quickly in an evolving environment
  • Capable of prioritizing conflicting responsibilities and independently driving toward deadlines in a hyper-growth environment
  • Experience with Workday Financial Management preferred
  • Experience with Lease Accounting and ASC 842 preferred
