Apply specialized fundamental research knowledge and methodologies to serve as a subject matter authority in the medical devices/medical technology sector. Plan research studies, and gather, analyze and interpret company and industry sector data to identify sound investment opportunities and forecast company performance. Develop opinions and educate investment teams, clients and prospects on research findings and recommendations. Provide guidance to less experienced team members.
Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
- Possess subsector expertise in any/all of the following: dental, animal health, ophthalmology, respiratory, orthopedics, aesthetics.
- Apply specialized fundamental and technical research knowledge, methodologies and best practices to plan, conduct and present findings of fundamental equity research studies. Serve as a subject matter authority in research and investment analysis on companies on the medical devices/technology sector.
- Collaborate with investment and trading teams to ascertain research needs and plan research studies to facilitate new investment ideas. Determine optimal approaches for collecting and analyzing company and industry data. Define research objectives, determine appropriate analysis parameters, and plan fundamental research projects to be conducted by the team.
- Analyze and interpret company, industry, financial and investment data and other relevant information to identify opportunities to achieve superior investment returns for investment teams and clients. Synthesize key findings for reports and presentations.
- Identify and formulate new investment ideas based on research findings. Issue opinions and recommendations to clients on securities and companies within industry specialization to generate new business activity. Provide detailed knowledge and commentary on industry/sector subject matter.
- Guide the creation of reports, presentations, educational materials, commentaries, etc. for investment teams, clients and prospects. Provide input in the development and marketing of investment solutions.
- Cultivate relationships with company executives through regular contact, interviews, and company visits. Represent William Blair, convey research opinions and respond to inquiries at industry events, investment conferences and meetings with institutional investors.
- Provide guidance to less experienced team members.
- Ensure all work activities are in compliance with applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with significant experience in covering the medical devices/technology sector required
- CFA, CPA, or technical designation preferred
- 5+ years of related investment research experience required
- SIE Exam, Series 7, Series 63, Series 86, and Series 87 required within first 180 days
- Strong conceptual and critical thinking skills
- Strong accounting and financial statement analysis skills
- Ability to build complex computer-generated financial models
- Strong written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to convey complex financial information in an understandable mann
