 Shift: Mon-Fri, 6:30am - 3:00pm

General Responsibilities

Assist Leak Crews, Dump Truck Crews, Field Crews, Valve Crews and Construction Crews in the repair, installation and maintenance of water main in the Distribution System. Also responsible for maintenance of right-a-ways of potable and raw water mains.

Essential Job Functions

1. Assist in locating and installing water mains, valves, fire hydrants, service, loops, etc., including repairing leaks within the distribution system.
2. Perform manual excavations and tamping of backfill after excavations using a jackhammer or clay spade.
3. Assist in maneuvering heavy objects such as pipe, fittings, and valves; assist in measuring and cutting pipe for leak repairs; apply coating materials to pipelines; pour and drive lead in pipe joints.
4. Replace paving and concrete, repair sleeves and split sleeves. 
5. Operate equipment related to appurtenances and construction for the repair of water mains and its appurtenances.  Operate mowing equipment such as riding mowers, string trimmers and push mowers to maintain transmission water mains and rights-of-way.
6. Install clamps on breaks, replace service lines and shut off valves for repairs.
7. Install service taps with tapping machines for fire hydrants, domestic and fire services.
8. Maintain traffic control in the work area using flags to ensure a safe working environment.
9. Replace and install meter boxes as needed.
10. Work an on-call rotating schedule outside the regular schedule on a rotating basis.
11. Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures. Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management.
12. Perform other duties as assigned

Education

 

High school diploma or equivalent required

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: 

• Valid driver’s license required
• Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) class B preferred
• ADEM Grade I Certification preferred

• Six (6) months of manual labor experience required.
