Suzano S.A. is the he largest pulp manufacturer in the world, one of the largest paper producers in Latin America and the leader in the toilet paper segment in Brazil. On October 1, 2024 Suzano purchased the Pine Bluff, AR paper mill and the Waynesville, NC extrusion facility from Pactiv Evergreen.
The Pine Bluff Paper Mill is located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, less than an hour from Little Rock in scenic southeast Arkansas. It is the largest industrial employer in Jefferson County. Opened in 1958, Pine Bluff is home to the world's largest gable-top liquid packaging paperboard machine. In addition to producing paperboard for cartons, the facility also produces coated paper for magazines.
Responsibilities
Position Summary:We are seeking an experienced Labor Relations Manager to manage and oversee labor relations initiatives at our Pine Bluff facility. This role is key to fostering effective communication and productive relationships with union representatives and employees, ensuring compliance with labor agreements, and facilitating a positive work environment. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in labor relations and a proactive approach to managing conflict and promoting a culture of mutual respect.
Key Responsibilities:
- Union Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact with union representatives, maintaining a positive working relationship and open communication channels. Handle union grievances and resolve issues promptly and fairly.
- Contract Negotiation & Administration: Lead collective bargaining efforts, negotiate labor contracts, and manage contract renewals. Ensure contract terms are understood, followed, and implemented effectively.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations. Monitor changes in labor legislation and update policies as necessary.
- Employee Relations: Support HR and leadership teams in addressing employee concerns, conducting investigations, and resolving disputes in a fair and consistent manner.
- Training & Development: Conduct training for managers and supervisors on effective labor relations practices, contract provisions, and handling employee issues within a unionized environment.
- Policy Implementation: Assist in developing and implementing labor policies that support a positive workplace culture while aligning with organizational goals and legal requirements.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Track labor relations metrics and trends, prepare reports on labor relations activities, and recommend improvements based on data-driven insights.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor Relations, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in labor relations or employee relations, with experience in a unionized environment.
- Proven expertise in collective bargaining, contract interpretation, and dispute resolution.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with union representatives, employees, and leadership.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends and recommend proactive solutions.
