Position Summary:
Working with minimal supervision from the Campus Education Leader and Campus Director, the CA Dental Assistant Program Director is primarily responsible for overseeing and managing the CA dental assistant program to a population of diverse students.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The CA Dental Assistant Program director supervises dental assistant faculty, performs periodic classroom faculty evaluations, monitors student conduct in the classroom, on the campus, and on field trips and school related functions, and other duties as requested.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities for Faculty:
- Prepares course work for all assigned classes and teaches assigned courses in accordance with established Milan Institute approved curriculum and course outlines;
- Assesses and analyzes student mastery of course and program learning outcomes;
- Attends educational and campus meetings;
- Contacts students outside the classroom due to student absence to relay information related to class work and assignments;
- Informs students about course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements (via course syllabus);
- Track lab inventory and place orders with program director monthly;
- Maintains necessary attendance (via Instructor Portal), scholastic and student records, including counseling students as needed;
- Works closely with Education Leader to ensure student challenges are addressed before educational coursework is affected;
- Maintains current knowledge in the dental field by attending continuing educations courses, either on site or via online courses;
Curriculum
- Provide instruction using approved curriculum
- Follow curriculum schedule
- Use visual aids including PowerPoints to meet the needs of visual learners
- Demonstrations, interactive hands on activities should occur daily throughout every lesson to meet the instructional needs of kinesthetic learners
- Maintain a thorough and accurate knowledge of the subject matter taught.
- Certification and licensure skills and knowledge should be emphasized throughout the program
- Demonstrate, monitor, and encourage students to practice legendary customer service
- Make every effort to properly prepare students for licensure/certification examinations and strive for a 90% exam pass rate each year (graduates versus licensed graduates), if applicable
Essential Duties and Responsibilities for Program Director:
- Participates in professional development, advisory board meetings, student and other educational activities in accordance with school policy;
- Participates in the evaluation, revision and development of curriculum and instructional methods;
- Performs externship site visits at least every 10 days and writes evaluation of externship to date;
- Forms working relationships within the Dental community, seeks potential extern site relationships and graduate employment opportunities (including communication with Career Services);
- Places lab inventory orders monthly;
- Counsels students on ‘as needed’ basis;
- Communicates with Director and Education Leader regarding student issues, concerns, potential leave of absences, attendance issues, etc.
- Has teaching responsibilities that are less than that of a full time dental assistant faculty;
- Works with Career Services and Dean of Students to arrange advisory board meetings biyearly;
- Closely follows Milan Institute Employee Benchmarks objectives, with focus on student completion, placement; and licensure rates; faculty development and continuing education; and ensures that faculty follows Milan Institute approved curriculum;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
