Your Role at Baxter

The Assoc Director, EHS&S will directly lead the areas of environmental, health, safety and sustainability (EHS&S). Lead the development and deployment of strategy, policies, plans, and procedures for an EHS&S department.  Ensure that all facilities are in compliance with applicable Federal, State and local laws and fulfillment of all division and Baxter EHS&S objectives.    Lead teams of EHS&S professionals to ensure the attainment of the company's EHS&S goals.

What you'll be doing

This section contains a list of five to eight primary responsibilities of this role that account for the majority of the work. The incumbent will perform other duties assigned.

  • Responsible for the Environmental, Health, Safety, Sustainability of penicillin and non-penicillin beta lactam antibacterial compounds, potent drug compounds, corrosive substances, and acids/bases in manufacturing and laboratory settings. 
  • Lead professionals and/or project teams to implement, manage, and/or ensure compliance for Environmental, Health, Safety, Sustainability and/or Industrial Hygiene compliance programs and Baxter policies.
  • Establish a communication channel for information gathering, evaluating and responding to events or conditions which are not consistent with our operations.
  • Provide overall directions for site environmental, safety and health programs through the establishment of sound policies.
  • Direct and participate with the site facility personnel in continuous improvement evaluations.
  • Track and communicate regulatory requirements and assure that site plans are developed and executed to assure that Baxter's activities can be conducted in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws.
  • Develop, conduct and manage educational programs.
  • Provide information and direction to site management in identifying problems and components of potential threat to our business or which may result in legal action against our organization or its officers.
  • Interview, hire, coach, motivate, develop, recognize and manage performance of direct reports.  Provide regular feedback to all direct reports. Set performance objectives, support development plans and monitor progress.
  • Develops and implements tactical plans and initiatives to support key business objectives
  • Significant contributor to the creation and deployment of the site EHS&S strategy; prioritizes and manages resources to achieve strategy objectives
  • Advises and guides senior leadership on critical projects
  • Ensures that the site’s EHS&S policies and processes are in compliance with regulations and company standards
  • Cultivates an environment where others value and support a strong EHS&S culture
  • Represents the company on contested enforcement actions or when meeting with state and sometimes Federal / National regulatory agencies
  • Tracks and assesses the impact of EHS&S laws, regulations and trends
  • Formulates and implements policies and advises senior management on the compliance status, costs and technical improvements needed to achieve compliance
  • Serves as the governance/assurance lead across the entire PHARMA segment

What you'll bring

  • B.S. Degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering or related field required; M.S. Degree in Environmental or Safety Engineering or Technology preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience which should include 5 years of people management experience.
  • Must be conversant in applicable EHS&S regulations
  • Professional certifications preferred (PE, CIH, CSP, etc.)
  • Proven ability to deliver results through the leadership of others.
  • Proven track record of interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to interface well with other departments, and lead effectively and efficiently in a team environment to deliver result
