Description
Under the direction of the City and Assistant City Manager, performs high-quality and thorough work relating to the needs of the Administration Office and West Valley City. Works autonomously or collaboratively with other members of the city staff to achieve professional grade work and deliverables.
Starting Pay: $62,790 - $86,336 annually, additional pay depending on experience
Schedule: 4 x 10-hour shifts per week, Monday - Thursday

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists Department Directors and staff in the completion of projects in order to complete and adhere to their departmental goals and objectives; establishes an environment of collaboration between departments and staff as a liaison for the City Manager’s office.
- May represent the City Manager and Executive Staff in a variety of settings and scenarios; maintains constant professionalism when interacting with citizens, private organizations, and/or other municipalities.
- Lead or participate in special projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and municipal policies.
- Conduct research on best practices and emerging trends in municipal management; prepare detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders.
- Utilizes thorough understanding of problem solving and analysis strategies and best practices in order to complete and offer recommendations to complex problems and research; exemplifies resourcefulness in receiving a task and taking it through fruition with minimal over sight and required management.
- Participates in the creation, management, and assessment of City ordinances, administrative policies, procedures, projects, programs, and/or any other City activity.

- Thorough and proven knowledge in management theory; municipal and government financing principles; budgeting and accounting related procedures and best-practices; understanding of multiple city functions and departments.
- High level computer skills, including all widely expected skills in word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.
- Ability to create webpages and interact constructively with programmers highly desirable.
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage the work of professional and administrative project teams as assigned.
- Communicate effectively with office personnel, city staff, and other.
- Create and maintain effective working relationship with the Mayor, Elected Officials, City Manager, Assistant City Manager, Senior Executive Office Manager and City Staff.
Education and/or Experience
- Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field; or Bachelor's degree with 2 years experience working in a City Manager's Office.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, walk and stand; reach with hands and arms.
- The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
- The work environment is generally an indoor office setting, but involves exposure to a variety of municipal work environments.
- Subject to occasional moderate noise levels.
- Exposure to extensive work-related stress due to a heavy workload, multiple project assignments, concurrent deadlines, and human behavior.
