About the role
Description
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Staff Accountant with expertise in QuickBooks Online and a solid grounding in GAAP. This role supports daily accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial records in a dynamic asset recovery business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and record daily financial transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO), ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Monitor accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely invoices and payment processing.
- Process vendor invoices, including verifying approvals, coding expenses, and entering them into QBO.
- Schedule and process payments to vendors via checks, ACH, or wire transfers.
- Reconcile accounts payable ledger to ensure all bills and payments are accounted for and properly posted.
- Assist with 1099 preparation and filing for contractors.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and other financial records.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, budgets, and internal reports.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and accruals.
- Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies, resolve issues, and recommend improvements.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and assist with depreciation calculations.
- Collaborate with the team to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
- Assist with audits and special projects as needed.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, customers, and other departments.
- Assist with training and onboarding of new team members or interns.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial data and uphold ethical standards.
- Process payroll entries, including salary, bonuses, benefits, and tax withholdings, and ensure proper classification and reconciliation in the general ledger.
- Coordinate with payroll providers to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts, including payroll liabilities, accrued wages, and benefits.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 2+ years of accounting experience, with demonstrated proficiency in QuickBooks Online.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Solid understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with other accounting software is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with financial reporting and budget preparation.
- Familiarity with automation tools such as SaaAnt, Bill.com or Dext.
