As a key member of the US Human Resources Team, the Director of Human Resources – Viking Mississippi will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of the Viking Mississippi Human Resource (HR) efforts ensuring legal compliance, effectiveness and efficient.

This position will be on a hybrid schedule (3 days in office/2 remote) and requires overnight travel (30%)

Responsibilities

  • Along with HR management team plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.
  • Administers or oversees human resource programs, of the Mississippi onboard crew and staff including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave.
  • Handles disciplinary matters, disputes, investigations, performance, and talent management,
  • Along with HR management team, handles recognition, engagement, training and development, occupational health and safety.
  • Ensures Human Resources programs and initiatives are effective, efficient, and aligned with overall business objectives.
  • Administers or oversees payroll, ensuring accurate and timely processing and nationwide compliance.
  • Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to management.
  • Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for staff.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, and train Mississippi HR team
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the Mississippi HR team, specifically onboarding, payroll, leave management, and employee relations for crew members of the Viking Mississippi.
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and training new HR staff.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and a strong understanding of current employment regulations and compliance issues.
  • Experience with Jones Act / Merchant Marine Act of 1920 and Passenger Vessel Services Act.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and techniques.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate individually and employing solid decision-making skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain highly effective relationships, externally and internally.
  • Ability to influence professionals of senior and executive management level.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least five years nationwide human resource management experience.
  • Previous travel, tourism, hospitality experience a plus.
