Job Description Summary

The Quality Control Inspector - will work at the Erlanger, KY Service Center to inspect and verify large-scale, power generation equipment and their subassemblies for compliance with engineering specifications, blueprints, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Dimensional Verification: Perform comprehensive first-piece, in-process, and final inspections on complex, large-scale machined components.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Expertly analyze and interpret complex engineering drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) specifications, to verify part conformity.
  • Non-Conformance Reporting: Identify and formally document non-conforming parts. Collaborate with shop floor personnel to quarantine affected material and participate in root cause investigations to prevent recurrence.
  • Documentation Excellence: Maintain inspection logs, complete First Article Inspection (FAI) reports, and ensure all quality documentation supports full material traceability.
  • Tool Calibration Oversight: Conduct regular audits of inspection equipment to ensure all tools are calibrated, operational, and stored correctly.
  • Continuous Improvement: Partner with CNC Machinists to monitor manufacturing processes, identifying potential quality risks early in the production cycle to minimize scrap and rework.
  • Safety Adherence: Maintain a high standard of shop floor safety, ensuring all inspection activities are performed in accordance with site-specific safety protocols and PPE requirements.

Technical Proficiency Requirements

The candidate must demonstrate advanced proficiency in the setup and use of the following manual precision measuring instruments:

  • Micrometers: Precision measurement using outside, inside, depth, and thread micrometers.
  • Gage Blocks: Building and assembling gage blocks accurately for checking gages to a standard.
  • Calipers: Competent use of vernier, dial, and digital calipers for high-accuracy external, internal, and depth measurements.
  • Indicators: Use of dial test indicators and magnetic bases for checking runout, parallelism, perpendicularity, and flatness on surface plates.
  • Height Gages: Utilization of vernier and digital height gages for layout, vertical dimension verification, and surface plate setups.
  • Fixed Gages: Proficiency with go/no-go plug gages, thread plug gages, and ring gages to verify hole and thread fitment.
  • Bore Gages: Precise internal diameter measurement of cylindrical and bearing surfaces.
  • Angular Measurement: Use of adjustable protractor heads, precision angle blocks, and sine bars for verifying tapers and angular tolerances.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Quality Inspector in a machine shop environment.
  • Deep understanding of manual precision measurement techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical blueprints.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain clear, accurate, and legible handwritten documentation.
  • Physical ability to maneuver around large-scale power generation components and perform inspections in various shop floor positions.

Pay Transparency:

The pay for this position is at $35.00/hour. This posting is expected to close when a suitable candidate has been identified.

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
