JOB SUMMARY:

The Jefferson County Commission is seeking a skilled and motivated Business Intelligence (BI) Reporting Analyst. In this role, individuals will be responsible for the full BI development lifecycle, including data sourcing, preparation, analysis, modeling, and report design using SQL, Power BI, and other BI tools. This is a hands-on position that turns complex data into clear, actionable insights through impactful visualizations and reporting. The BI Reporting Analyst will partner closely with stakeholders and leadership to gather requirements, understand business needs, and deliver meaningful BI solutions that support data-driven decision-making across the organization.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:

  • Experience working with programming languages and relational databases (e.g., T-SQL, SQL, Python, VB.NET, C++, Java) to analyze, transform, and manipulate complex data for business intelligence and reporting purposes.

  • Experience administering Business Intelligence (BI) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, including managing user permissions, maintaining data integrity, mapping data sources, and supporting system operations.

  • Experience analyzing and translating business requirements to interactive Business Intelligence reports and dashboards.

  • Experience performing data analysis and manipulation.

  • Experience leading projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and providing training and support to end users on Business Intelligence reporting tools and processes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by the Jefferson County Commission. These qualifications may be considered by a hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection process.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.

  • Experience in business analysis. 

  • Experience working with SQL Server development. 

TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Designs, develops, and maintains interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI and SQL, transforming complex data into visually intuitive, actionable insights that support business decision-making.

  • Sources, cleanses, integrates, and manages data from multiple systems, including data warehouses, cloud platforms, flat files, vendor feeds, spreadsheets, and web APIs, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

  • Creates and maintains scalable, efficient data models that support both standard reporting and ad hoc analytics, ensuring data integrity and optimal report performance.

  • Monitors data pipelines and report outputs to ensure data accuracy, reliability, and timeliness; proactively troubleshoot and resolve data discrepancies and technical issues.

  • Continuously optimizes the performance of reports and dashboards through query tuning, model refinement, and visualization best practices to ensure quick load times across all devices.

  • Conducts in-depth, ad-hoc analyses to address critical business questions, identify trends and anomalies, and provide actionable insights and recommendations to leadership.

  • Partners with business users and cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define KPIs, ensure reporting solutions meet business needs, and convert legacy reports (e.g., SSRS) to BI platforms.

  • Develops and maintains BI documentation, create user guides, and provide training and ongoing support to promote self-service analytics and data literacy across the organization.
