“The Church exists to evangelize!” The Coordinator of Children’s Faith Formation (CCFF) supports the core mission priorities of Encounter and Accompaniment as outlined in Archbishop William Lori’s A Light Brightly Visible 2.0 - Archdiocese of Baltimore (archbalt.org). Under the direction of the Pastoral Associate(PA), the Coordinator of Children’s Faith Formation (CCFF) is responsible for the implementation of the sacramental and faith formation program for all students in pre-school through 5th grade in the parish. The CCFF acts as an advocate and representative for children and their families to the pastoral team, the parish family, the surrounding community, and the universal Church.
This position will be about 30 hours per week with Sunday morning and Tuesday evening programs. The coordinator will work with families on in-class and home-study programs. This position is considered benefits eligible with health care, paid time off, and retirement savings.
Essential Functions
- Implements in person and home study curriculum for pre-school through 5th grade children, utilizing curriculum options developed by the PA and approved by the Archdiocese (presently including Pflaum Gospel Weeklies, Benzinger Family Life, and AOB standards and indicators for each grade level)
- Recruits and trains volunteers to run Children’s Liturgy of the Word for all the Masses (currently 10:30 am Mass during the school year)
- Orders and inventories materials needed for Children’s programs such as VBS, Christmas pageant, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, and other events within a given budget
- Recruits and interviews catechists; trains and evaluates catechists as required
- Ensures that all adult volunteers in FF are certified in Virtus training prior to beginning service, further monitors that all catechists, aides, and other volunteers in faith formation adhere to Safe Environment policies for the protection of children and youth
- Ensures that peer ministers (ages 14-17) and other teen helpers are trained in Worthy of the Call prior to beginning lay ministry service; schedules and conducts this training in communication with the parish Virtus coordinator, who will keep the records
- Prepares children and parents for the sacraments of Reconciliation and 1st Eucharist and schedules and coordinates the sacraments
- Works with Pastor, visiting priests, and Director of Liturgy to plan and implement designated sacramental and other celebrations including, but not limited to: Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Children’s Stations of the Cross, Christmas pageant, Vacation Bible School, the Crowning of Mary, and the Living Rosary
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Education, or related field preferred; current catechist certification or willingness to work toward certification preferred.
- Minimum of three years’ work experience in a church or school setting or commensurate experience as a volunteer catechist required.
- Must be a practicing Catholic and demonstrate an active commitment to the Church’s mission and to the sharing of that mission with children and youth.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with adults and children of all ages.
- Outstanding organizational skills, including time management, delegation, planning, and budgeting.
- Outstanding computer skills, with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products; working in Ministry Platform and Flocknote a plus.
