Responsibilities also include providing health maintenance and disease prevention based on appropriate age and concomitant risk factors. Following established protocols, nurse practitioners/physician assistants assume responsibility for patient care management of a variety of patient populations. The APP demonstrates leadership skills, establishes effective relationships with patients, their families and members of patient care. The APP will function within the requirements of the State of South Carolina Board of Nursing or SC Board of Medical Examiners including designation of supervising/collaborating physician, alternate physicians and written protocols/scopes of practice guidelines, updated annually.

Job Summary/ Purpose: The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is trained to deliver primary and specialized health care to patients with a variety of acute and chronic illnesses. Responsibilities also include providing health maintenance and disease prevention based on appropriate age and concomitant risk factors. Following established protocols, nurse

practitioners/physician assistants assume responsibility for patient care management of a variety of patient populations. The APP demonstrates leadership skills, establishes effective relationships with patients, their families and members of patient care. The APP will function within the requirements of the State of South Carolina Board of Nursing or SC Board of

Medical Examiners including designation of supervising/collaborating physician, alternate physicians and written protocols/scopes of practice guidelines, updated annually.

The APP in this position will be outpatient based for the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT clinic. Anticipated hours are 8-4 PM Monday through Friday. Duties will include chemotherapy writing, comprehensive orders for clinic visits, evaluation and management of patients, progress notes, care coordination, and performing procedures. Participation is expected in weekly care coordination meeting, tumor board, and patient review meeting.

Position may be eligible for partial remote work after an orientation period.


Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Salaried/Exempt


Hours per week: 40

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Monday-Friday, 8:00am- 4:00pm

Patient Population Focus: Outpatient, Infusion Suite, Management/Consultation.

Patient Population Age Range: 0years-21 years

Required Training and Experience   

Required Minimum Training: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.

APRN License Type/Certification:

  • Physician Assistant  

or 

  • PCPNP/PNP (Primary Care Pediatric NP or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner): Pediatric patients (birth to age 21), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting.
  • FNP (Family NP): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.

Preferred Training and Experience

Preferred Training: Physician Assistant (PA) or if APRN, License Type/Certification identified below:

  • PACNP (Pediatric Acute Care NP): Pediatric pts (birth to age 21), acutely ill or injured, potentially unstable or technologically dependent.

Preferred Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience as a PA or NP working with Pediatric Hematology/Oncology patients.
