Senior Vice President, Customer Risk ManagementOverviewWe are currently looking for a Senior Vice President, Customer Risk Management based in Purchase, NY.
The role, in the first line of defense, consists in overseeing the global customer risk management (CRM) function for Mastercard inclusive of Credit Analysis and Underwriting, Customer Exposure Monitoring as well as analytics and reporting. This senior leader will oversee a global team operating across multiple regions including the CRM Center of Excellence.
Mastercard has approximately $60bn in credit exposure to financial institutions and other counterparties worldwide, placing the CRM role as a key part of its evolving and quickly growing business model. The magnitude and strategic nature of this exposure necessitates engagement with executive management, Mastercard’s sales and product organizations as well as our customers.
Role
The primary responsibility is to ensure customer risk is appropriately identified, monitored and managed in accordance with Mastercard’s policies & procedures and risk appetite framework. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Acting as the global point of contact and escalation for CRM-related matters
- Partnering with sales and product organizations to design innovative risk mitigant approaches to cater to customers with different business models
- Engaging directly with MA Regional Presidents and other executive management in support of key risk decisions
- Developing appropriate protection agreements as required, and acting as an escalation point for collateral discussions with global account managers and customers
- Reviewing and approving customer credit risk underwriting analysis and, if required, presenting the same to the second line of defense credit risk function and executive management for approval
- Ensuring customer credit exposure remains managed within the Company’s risk appetite at an individual customer and global portfolio level
- Overseeing activity of the CRM Center of Excellence who ensures 24x7 global customer risk exposure monitoring and appropriate underwriting support for risk managers
- Managing through impacts of regional and global credit events including customer failures, portfolio transfers and license termination
- Leading engagement and responses to Regulators in markets where MA has direct supervision
- Accountability for Management, Board and external reporting on customer credit exposure
- Maintaining and enhancing global procedures for the management of credit risk
- Monitoring of MA’s settlement banks for signs of credit deterioration
- Engaging with key stakeholders in MA’s Credit Risk function to define and monitor adherence to MA’s Risk Appetite Statement and risk appetite metrics as it relates to credit risk
- Sponsorship and oversight of technology enhancements to the Credit Risk Management System and Customer Exposure Monitoring system to continually improve MA’s ability to manage its credit risk
- Oversight of credit models that enable the monitoring and measurement of credit risk globally, e.g., Probability of Default, Country Risk, Profit at Risk, etc
All About You
- Postgraduate degree in business or equivalent
- Experience in credit risk assessment, financial statements analysis and management is a prerequisite
- Strong experience in / knowledge of the banking sector and knowledge of the payments regulation landscape
- Knowledge of card scheme, settlement and Tech platforms preferred
- Risk mindset: ability to think outside the box and identify potential sources of risk
- Problem solving: ability to develop innovative solutions to manage/ address credit risk
- Experience managing a global and diverse team
- Experience engaging with executive management
- Experience and ability to engage with Regulators globally
- Outstanding written and verbal English communication skills
