The Opportunity:

Director, Federal Account Managers (FAMs) is focused on serving and partnering with our federal customers and their partners in delivering healthcare to patients. The Director, FAMs will work closely with the ecosystems to help them understand the unique needs of the Federal Payers and Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) and how we can partner to improve patient outcomes and lower the total cost of care. The Director, FAMs and ecosystems will also partner to improve the end to end customer experience; making it easier for our customers to access and benefit from our clinical expertise to better serve patients.

The Director, FAMs will work closely with the Senior Director of the Federal Team, Principal National Account Executive VA, the Senior National Account Executive DoD, 9 FAMs, and partners (e.g., national and regional customer engagement leaders, squads, portfolio marketing, medical, access and external affairs) to develop a deep understanding of the Federal Market. The Director, FAMs is accountable for executing on the national short- and long-term strategy with their team customizing needs based on team and ecosystem needs. They are responsible for leading, developing and coaching the FAMs to deliver results that deliver better patient care while reducing healthcare cost via appropriate therapy selection while advancing Genentech’s business with these customers.

To deliver on this ambitious vision for customers, the Director, FAMs will lead a team comprised of 9 FAMs and play a critical role in the teams’ continuous growth and development by demonstrating our Operating Principles.

Key Accountabilities

  • Deeply understand the unique needs of the federal customers in their pursuit of improved patient outcomes, lower costs and improved quality of care by building, maintaining and leveraging networks and relationships in the healthcare ecosystem and co-creating solutions with customers.
  • Accountable for driving business performance for the federal customers through execution of therapeutic area strategies in conjunction with the Leader of the Federal Team.
  • Build, lead and motivate a team of people with functional and therapeutic area expertise.
  • Harness the collective expertise of their team and the broader team to engage effectively and
  • compliantly across the region.
  • Communicate and partner effectively with the customer engagement teams, Squads, Medical partners and other internal stakeholders on partnership activities
  • Leverage new ways of working, co-creation workshops and other new ways of working to empower the Federal Accounts Team.
  • Create and foster a culture that enables and requires employees at all levels to live Genentech Operating Principles in all aspects of their work
  • In partnership with the Leader of the Federal Team, define the strategic near and long-term vision for the Federal Accounts, develop and deliver a plan that aligns with Genentech and Squad Therapeutic Area strategies and priorities, and helps identify opportunities for the Squads to partner where customer priorities and Genentech priorities intersect
  • Plays a role in representing the Federal Team and the broader National Supply & Care Delivery Team in cross-functional business planning processes, projects, forums and committees

This is a Field Based role, candidate can live anywhere in the US.

Qualifications

  • Strong business acumen and commercial insight developed through a combination of industry
  • experience, MBA or similar postgraduate degree preferred (a minimum of 12 years of experience)
  • Previous cross-functional industry experience in commercial life sciences (pharma or biotechnology) or related industry, with demonstrable evidence of delivering results
  • Previous work with VA or DoD Government business is preferred but not required
  • Developing and implementing strategic plans across complex healthcare environments such as managed care, including contracting strategy, administration and pull-through
  • Experience and success leading teams responsible
