Job Description:
ORBIS is seeking a software or computer engineer with a background developing and maintaining multi-process, state-driven Python applications used in a networked system of computers and Orbis designed hardware. The software engineer will work for our Charleston, SC office under the supervision of the Lab Director and applicable Project Manager.
Responsibilities Include:
1) Participate in or lead a multi-discipline design team, from project conception to project completion, while executing the required functions to design & maintain Python software and provide input to overall system design.
2) Attend review meetings and conduct hardware/software testing to validate data and ensure proper data throughput in/out of all software components.
3) Integrate new and modified software component interfaces from development branches of team members into the main application through Git merges.
4) Comply with applicable standards and organizational requirements.
Applicant must demonstrate good oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and troubleshooting and problem solving. Additionally, applicant must be willing to travel occasionally to customer locations in support of design review meetings, system installation, system testing events, etc.
Required Skills and Experience:
Skills: Python, C/C++, VS Code, Git, SQL, Linux
Required Experience: 3 or more years working with large scale, multi-process and state driven Python applications, using Git for branching and merging, creating relational databases, and familiarity with design patterns.
Desired Experience: Compiling C code for creating/accessing shared libraries, creating self-monitoring headless applications, interfacing with multiple hardware devices.
Degree Requirements:
BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
