JOB TITLE: Custodian
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations and Head Custodian
 

JOB GOAL: Performs custodial duties as assigned by the Director of Operations. Develops and implements custodial services which will provide clean, comfortable, healthful, safe and attractive building and grounds for students and staff.

OVERVIEW: Founded in 1997, EastSide Charter School is a free, public elementary school that educates students in Wilmington, Delaware. EastSide prides itself on being a community-based school, using multiple partnerships, strong relationships with families, and a dedicated and hard-working faculty to ensure academic success for its students. Serving over 500 students in grades Pre-K though 8, EastSide is in the midst of a dynamic turnaround effort that will have a profound impact in Wilmington. Staff members play a significant role in ensuring that our students develop the character and skills necessary to being an influential and contributing member of the community and global society. This position is suited for someone who is willing to do "Whatever it Takes" to support our students in being successful in school and in life.
 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Cleaning, stock, wax, dust, sweep or clean floors, walls, blinds, furniture, lavatories, locker rooms, shelves, fixtures and glass surfaces.
• Ensure the grounds are free of litter and debris.
• Alert supervisor to required repairs as needed.
• Delivers various items (e.g., supplies, packages, furniture, etc.) to the appropriate parties.
• Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, alarms, drills, etc.).
• Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparation for meetings, classroom activities, and events.
• Maintain and do minor repair of furniture.
• Perform minor maintenance repairs to building facilities
• Assist in snow removal.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Education:
• Minimum of a High School Education
 

Experience:
• Competence with minor electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs.
• Competence with painting, wall preparation, and minor surface repairs.
• Skill with various equipment and tools.
 

Skills/Traits:
• Ability to observe and anticipate facility needs and appropriately respond.
• Lifts up to 30 pounds unassisted for the purpose of lifting equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks.
• Performs work at heights of up to 12 feet using ladders and/or scaffolding for the purpose of cleaning, changing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, etc.
• Pleasant and professional demeanor with faculty and staff.
• Willingness to be helpful at all times.
 

COMMITMENT AND COMPENSATION:
Length of Work Year: 12 month employee
Hours: M-F 6am-2:30pm with one thirty minute break. Pre-approved overtime hours will also be available.
