The Privacy Engineering & Data Protection team aims to make Cruise a leader in self-driving consumer privacy. Cruise launched its self-driving ridehail service earlier in 2022, and we are quickly scaling; this an opportunity to influence the direction for privacy & data security at a company in its early stages of commercialization!
We are seeking candidates with software engineering chops,experience developing detections and alerts, eager to learn about security & privacy, and excited to be on the cutting edge of self-driving technology. This Senior Software Engineer will be working to develop detections and alerts which will provide Cruise crucial visibility into the handling of personal data across systems.
We’re looking for someone who’s comfortable in uncharted territory as we build unique privacy technologies to maintain user trust. We need your skills and passion to make it happen. Candidates could work in the office (if SF- or Seattle-based) or remotely.
What you'll be doing:
Writing testable software using modern cloud architectures & code reviewing peer software
Developing detections and alerts for visibility into handling of personal data across systems
Working collaboratively with the Threat Defense team to integrate their self-service detection tooling into Privacy’s capabilities
Identifying and responding to privacy risks, driving technical remediations (note: this role does NOT require on-call work)
Cultivating software and security engineering best practices from other members of the team
What you must have:
Familiarity with SQL for querying complex data sets
Experience writing software using any modern language and technology stack
Experience crafting effective detections and managing alerting pipelines
Passion to independently deliver novel software solutions to the security domain
The ability to understand how individual software components fit into a larger system
Bonus points!
Grasp of information security principles and common attacker behavior
Contributions to the open source community (public research, blogging, presentations, etc)
Experience driving technical remediations to privacy risks
The salary range for this position is $176,800 - 260,000. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
