Job Purpose

The position will support a wide range of services within the Employee/Internal Communications function for the New England business. The individual in this position will support employee communications strategies, plans, policies and projects that drive pride and understanding of National Grid’s strategic objectives and mission. Responsibilities include writing news articles/stories, developing multimedia content, and managing a suite of communications channels for internal audiences. This is a position for a junior-level professional communicator, with room for growth. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Under direction of the Director, New England Colleague Communication & Engagement (CC&E), implement employee communications strategies that drive engagement, enablement and performance under the New England Business Unit. 
  • Create a steady drumbeat of communications collateral including written content, presentations, digital/intranet posts, and video/multimedia resources. Strong writing and editing skills are a must. 
  • Align and collaborate with partner teams including the New York CCE team, the Global CCE team and the New England Corporate Affairs team on major business-wide communications campaigns including initiatives related to change management, clean energy advances, crisis communications, diversity and inclusion, safety, and customer service. 
  • Assist in the coordination of event planning, webinars and panel presentations as needed.  
  • Develop an understanding of National Grid’s gas and electric operations and build relationships with key stakeholders to advance storytelling and recognition of field-based successes. 
  • Advise key stakeholders strategically, to help simplify communication messages and connect the dots for employees   
  • Update and maintain New England content calendar weekly and assist with forward-looking strategic communications planning and implementation.  
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve end-to-end processes and procedures aligned with the CC&E model, including governance and measurement.   
  • Participate as a team member to support storm restoration activity during major weather events, which can require working outside of regular business hours.   

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in employee communications, change management, public relations, marketing, or journalism. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to simplify complex concepts under tight deadlines. 

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Applications: Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with strong presentation skills. Experience with Via Engage, Poppulo, and CMS a plus. 

  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise and engaging copy for internal audiences, including (but not limited to) content for various channels, fact sheets, white papers, executive speeches and presentations, employee newsletters, etc.  Writing samples must be provided.  

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and participation in social media.
