About This Opportunity
In this position you will support and maintain the role-specific IT services and infrastructure required for the efficient operation of the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture, and Information Technology and its Schools and Centres, as part of the Information Technology Infrastructure Group.
Whilst being primarily responsible within the team for the support and maintenance of the faculty’s Windows servers and associated infrastructure and service offerings, you will be expected to undertake other tasks within your range of expertise and experience and consistent with the minimum requirements for this position.
Key responsibilities will include:
Maintenance and support of Faculty Windows infrastructure (including Windows roles) and basic office software to clients and other team members.
Development, maintenance, and improvement of operating system and software deployment images for both staff and coursework users.
Participate in the resolution of technical problems reported by clients and team members via the helpdesk.
Assist in the planning, development, deployment, and review of appropriate monitoring strategies of all role-related mission critical systems, services, and processes.
Support and maintain some physical hardware, VMware guests (and associated configuration), and Windows operating systems for reliability, redundancy, and continuity in the event of a failure.
Identify opportunities to improve systems or processes or develop new services or facilities to improve the research, teaching, and learning missions of The University.
Adopt and promote sound cyber security practices in compliance with UQ’s Cyber Security Policy and according to cyber security procedures and standards developed by the University or Division.

About You
A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software or Computer Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline with relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training.
Good written and verbal communication skills (able to write clear documentation, standards, and technical guides; liaise effectively with clients), interpersonal skills (working as part of a team), and attention to detail.
Experience working in a frontline or second-tier general technical support team, or equivalent experience demonstrating troubleshooting and problem resolution skills, astute judgement, and lateral thinking.
Experience working with Windows Server roles and features on a moderate sized server fleet (i.e., Active Directory, Group Policy, SCCM, WSUS, Remote Desktop Services, Windows Backup, IIS, etc).
