Overview
The International Economics Section (IES) has an opening for a Research Assistant (i.e., Senior Research Specialist). This position offers an ideal transitional job for recent graduates who are interested in international economics and are considering further studies in economics. It offers the opportunity to see what a career doing frontier academic research involves.
The successful candidate will gain experience working with some of the world’s leading researchers in international economics. They will be expected to assemble and manage data sets, to program and simulate non-linear models, and to assist faculty members in all aspects of their research.
This is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewal for a second year, contingent upon continued funding and satisfactory performance. End date is dependent on start date, which may vary.
Responsibilities
Research support for IES including:
- Independent data collection, cleaning and analysis with little to no supervision
- Admin support (organizing logistics of experiments & data collection)
- Programming experiment designs and data collection tools independently
- Survey implementation, organizing focus groups on your own
- Running and editing interviews independently
- Write your own summaries of research, perform literature searches and reviews, and post and retrieve information from the web
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
- Fluency with statistics, econometrics and probability theory
- Good programming skills in python and R -- experience participating in open source projects a big +, especially experience with test-driven development
- BA/BS in Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Statistics, or a related field.
PREFERRED Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Experience, and Other Education
- Experience with programs such as SAS, Matlab, and Python.
- Experience with LaTex, Unix/Linux.
- Master's degree is desirable but not required
