Maintenance Supervisor - 1st shift (Alternate Work Schedule)

Location: onsite at GM facility in Kansas City, Kansas
Employment Type: Full-time
Shift: 1st Shift AWS (Thurs 6am to 10am, Fri - Sun 6am to 6:30pm)

Compensation: Target of $65,000 (paid hourly + OT eligible)

Position Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor - 1st Shift (Alternate Work Schedule) leads a team of mechanics in maintaining critical facility operations across multiple disciplines including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and building systems. This role manages daily maintenance operations, ensures compliance with engineering standards, and coordinates projects to deliver exceptional client service.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Operations

  • Supervise mechanics responding to facilities maintenance issues across carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, landscaping, and building systems
  • Organize, direct, and control daily maintenance operations and projects
  • Establish work schedules and assignments; procure materials and equipment
  • Coordinate work activities and projects to ensure timely, quality completion
  • Document work progress and results for reporting and compliance

Budget Management

  • Develop material and labor cost estimates for maintenance work orders and projects
  • Establish and maintain facilities maintenance department budget
  • Monitor expenditures and optimize resource allocation

Compliance & Development

  • Collaborate with global organization on Engineering Compliance requirements
  • Conduct field inspections and oversight activities
  • Orient, train, and develop team members through established standards and performance evaluations
  • Ensure adherence to facility codes, regulations, and safety standards

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • 5+ years facility/plant engineering maintenance experience
  • 5+ years supervisory experience in maintenance operations

Required Skills

  • Expertise in HVAC systems, fluid handling/pumping, and fluid filtering
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, carpentry, welding, and electrical systems
  • Understanding of current facility codes, requirements, and standards
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, email, and basic computer applications
  • Experience operating standard office equipment and specialized hand tools
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Budget development and cost estimation capabilities
  • Project coordination and organizational skills

Preferred Skills

  • Two years of trade school training in electrical systems, refrigeration, and
  • HVAC Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Professional certifications in relevant trades (electrical, HVAC, etc.)
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance best practices
  • Experience in multi-site facility management
  • Lean maintenance or Six Sigma methodology experience
  • Bilingual capabilities
  • Advanced knowledge of building automation systems
