We are looking for an experienced, self motivated Senior Manager in Data and Model Validation to join our Compliance Information and Systems Team.

As a Senior Manager for Mercari's U.S. operations, you’ll help lead efforts in validating data and models used by our Compliance Team members in making decisions on Compliance and Risk. As part of your responsibilities you will help to create best practices around data and models for complex user and transaction behavior as well as helping in creating rules sets to operationalize models. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Work closely with compliance and risk management to develop strategy to address complex problems using data, processes
  • Provide subject matter expertise cross-functionally and contribute to building a strong culture of compliance
  • Develop core metrics and create dashboards to track and understand the Compliance's Team performance, customer behavior, and extract key insights that impact product and business decisions
  • Develop data models that power dashboards that allow the Compliance Team to understand customer behavior, and extract key insights that impact operations and product decisions
  • Based on identified data patterns and learnings suggest and help analyze detection rules that will help the Compliance Team to identify prohibited behaviors/content on the platform 
  • Conduct ongoing analysis to assess the continued relevance of the detection scenarios, the underlying rules, threshold, parameters, and assumptions as assigned
  • Assist in periodic data/model validations including identifying appropriate data sources, validation of the integrity, accuracy, and quality of data to ensure that accurate and complete data is being utilized by the Transaction Monitoring and Filtering Program
  • Synthesize data learnings into compelling stories and communicate them throughout Mercari

What you need: 

  • 7- 10 years of relevant experience of increasing responsibilities in a compliance/ risk/ e-Commerce surveillance role within Fintech, payments, money service business and/or related functions in an organization
  • 5+ years of building detection and models to understand customer behavior, and extract key insights that impact product decisions
  • Experience with 
    • SQL (data extraction, manipulation, and analyses, including complex joins, creation of views and stored procedures)
    • visualization and dashboard applications like Looker, Chartio, Tableau
    • metrics and model validation projects
  • Excellent analytical, critical reasoning, and communication skills (such as communicating actionable insights and recommendations to various business partners)
  • Ability to work fluidly in a collaborative, team-based setting within a high-growth technology company and with a good sense of urgency while building out the program 

Bonus points:

  • Understanding of statistical concepts and experience in applying them
  • Experience with Regex, Machine Learning, and image recognition in prior roles is a plus

The applicable pay range for each role is based on where the applicant lives and is aligned to one of 3 zones according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Our Talent Acquisition team can help answer any questions about location after starting the recruiting process.

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. 

The expected base pay ranges for this role are below. These ranges may be modified in the future. 

Zone 1* $156,000 - $234,000

Zone 2** $140,400 - $210,600

Zone 3*** $124,800 - $187,200
