Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a skilled Environmental Technician to join our team near El Dorado, KS. In this role, the successful candidate will work both independently and collaboratively with the project team to assist in AECOM’s remedial operations, maintenance tasks, and monitoring activities at the HFSEDR Refinery. Ideal candidates will have a background in general construction, mechanical maintenance, oil and gas refinery processes, and/or environmental remediation and sampling. A strong interest in hands-on mechanical work is preferred, including experience in construction, home repair, auto maintenance, or well water systems. 

Key Responsibilities are as follows

  • Conduct routine fieldwork, including groundwater, surface water, and vapor sampling, as well as the operation, maintenance, and inspection of equipment, primarily with minimal supervision.
  • Perform various operations and maintenance activities related to remediation systems, including hydrocarbon extraction and impacted groundwater recovery, along with necessary maintenance and groundwater monitoring, while compiling field data.
  • Set up and operate equipment, inspect installations for compliance with specifications, manage on-site job trailers and vehicles, and maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical or electrical issues as they arise.
  • Coordinate with refinery and third-party personnel as needed.
  • Manage data and track operating parameters effectively.
  • Support project staff with routine tasks as required.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School + 4 Years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid US driver’s license. Must be able to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review to operate AECOM vehicles. 
  • Position requires being on call after normal work schedule for emergency situations.
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test and background check.
  • Majority of daily tasks require moving and working in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable environmental conditions including heat, cold, dusts, noise, moisture, vibration, and chemicals to perform daily O&M of onsite fluid recovery system. Also, a portion of the daily work is unaccompanied in isolated/remote areas.
  • Position occasionally works in an environment with heavy, moving dangerous equipment.
  • This position requires frequent (more than 50% of the workday) repetitive bending/stooping, to take ground water level measurements and to inspect and repair system components. Power gripping/squeezing hand tools and levers to perform inspection or reading of flow meters and removing nuts and bolts. 
  • Position requires ability to operate office computer and field tablet to enter data tracking requirements.
  • Position requires frequently lifting, carrying, and loading equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. without assistance and up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • On occasion position requires working with arms above shoulder level and using ladders.
  • Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment, including but not limited to gloves, safety glasses/goggles, safety shoes/boots, hard hat, hearing protection, and fire-retardant clothing (FRC).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at self-directing and prioritizing work.
  • Mechanical skills and hands-on skills
  • Knowledge of oil and gas refinery processes.
  • Experience with various media sampling (groundwater/surface water/vapor).
  • Experience with health and safety programs, and field notation.
  • OSHA 40-hour Training.
