Position Description

This Software Engineer position is in support of the Federation Integration and Testing program for the United States Air Force (USAF) Combat Air Force (CAF) Distributed Mission Operations Network (DMON) program out of Orlando, Florida.
Serco is an industry leader in developing, integrating, and sustaining complex simulator systems for the US Department of Defense. We are seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer to join our engineering teams to perform a variety of tasks leading to the successful integration, test, deployment, and sustainment of complex modeling & simulation (M&S) systems, enabling a worldwide distributed mission training capability. This Software Engineer position is in support of the Federation Integration and Testing program for the United States Air Force (USAF) Combat Air Force (CAF) Distributed Mission Operations Network (DMON) program.
In this role, you will:
- Design, modify, develop, write, and implement software programming applications.
- Support and/or install software applications and operating systems.
- Support the software testing lifecycle through detailed documentation, test reviews, requirements analysis, code reviews, and test verification activities to ensure software quality and certification readiness.
- Contribute to software documentation maintenance and configuration management processes.
- Conduct and document code reviews to maintain quality and compliance with program standards.
- Perform software requirements analysis to ensure traceability to program’s system-level requirements.
- Work with stakeholders to identify and resolve software issues across all phases of the product lifecycle.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Agile methodologies and ceremonies.
- Work with TENA, HLA, and DIS protocols for distributed simulation environments.
- Utilize Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence, BitBucket, Bamboo) and other development tools such, SourceTree, Git Commands, JFrog,SonarQube for project tracking, version control, and continuous integration.
- Develop software in mixed-language environments (C++ and C#) within Visual Studio.
- Lead and direct work through a complete software product development lifecycle; reports directly to a team lead or manager.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- One of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (CS) or Computer Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of related software experience.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of related software experience.
- Must have an active DoD Secret security clearance.
- Proficiency in C++ and C# development using Visual Studio.
- Familiarity with Git for version control.
- Proficiency in scripting languages, preferably PowerShell, Bash, Python, JavaScript.
- Familiarity with Agile products and feature development planning based on system requirements.
- Experience working with HLA and DIS protocols.
- Familiarity with IEEE, MIL, and SISO standards, including understanding the contents and relationships between DIS network packets.
- Ability to quickly adapt and work on multiple software applications simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks effectively.
- Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.
- Experience writing and executing unit tests.
- The ability to work on-site in Orlando, Florida.
Additional desired experience and skills:
- Proficiency with development and collaboration tools including JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, SourceTree, JFrog, SonarQube, and Bamboo.
- Experience working with TENA, and GRID
- Experience developing in Windows 11 operating systems.
- Experience working in Azure’s virtual environment.
- Familiarity with standards such as IEEE 1278.1/1516), MIL-STD-6016, and SISO standards (e.g., SISO-REF-010, SISO-STD-002-2021), including understanding the contents and relationships between DIS network packets.
