 The salary range for this position is $143,000 - $154,000 per year. The base salary offered may vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Restricted stock units will be provided as part of the compensation package.

CastleGate is Wayfair’s proprietary supply chain service that empowers suppliers to forward-position their inventory closer to customers, enabling fast, reliable, and cost-effective fulfillment. The CastleGate Product team is part of Wayfair’s broader Network Management organization and is responsible for building and optimizing the CastleGate offering across our global network to ensure it creates value for Wayfair, our Suppliers and Customers

We're looking for a seasoned and strategic Data Science Manager to lead a team in developing a groundbreaking Returns Disposition Engine. This engine will be a critical component of our supply chain and customer experience operations, using advanced analytics and machine learning to optimize the post-return process. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can balance technical expertise with business acumen, fostering a culture of innovation and data-driven decision-making. You'll be responsible for building and leading a team from the ground up, setting the technical direction, and delivering a solution that maximizes value for our company, suppliers, and customers via partnership with engineering. Successful individuals in this role excel at both qualitative and quantitative analysis while also being eager to communicate upward and outward to tell a concise story. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Leverage arithmetic, statistical, and ML approaches to establish a new “profit max” Returns Disposition Engine
  • Build dashboards (back end and front end) to translate large data sets (millions of rows of data) into insights 
  • Develop and own key metrics and reporting to measure how initiatives are improving Wayfair’s performance and enabling teams to identify trends, root causes and develop action plans
  • Advanced programming/coding for data access, manipulation, and analysis
  • Build scalable analytics models and frameworks from scratch
  • Perform statistical analysis across large data sets
  • Conduct A/B Testing (design, execute, and analyze A/B tests)
  • Tech review junior team members work product
  • Investigate trends and influence cross-functional partners to act on recommendations
  • Develop new methods to improve experimentation capabilities to solve complex business needs. 
  • Identify need for, develop and leverage advanced scalable statistical methods (relevant supervised and unsupervised ML algorithms) to perform exploratory analysis influencing cross functional strategy  

What You’ll Need:

  • MS in a quantitative field 
  • A highly analytical individual who can give structure to complex and often ambiguous data and modeling problems
  • Exceptional analytics skill set, including a high degree of comfort / expertise with Python or R and relational databases (SQL) on a daily basis with proven track record of insight development leading to action;
  • Willingness to do hands-on problem solving - including problem definition, prototype development, and work with Engineering to transfer solution to a scalable production environment.
  • Comfort operating with large data sets to identify trends, drill into specific details, make recommendations, and deliver upon desired outcomes
  • High attention to detail with ability to appropriately manage and prioritize projects and tasks appropriately that leads to results
  • Innovative problem-solving skills with a tenacity to develop ideas independently and thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment

An Important Note about Wayfair's In-Office Policy:

All Boston-based interns, Co-ops, and corporate employees will be in office in a hybrid capacity. Employees will work in the office on designated days, Monday - Thursday, and work remotely Friday.
