Summary:
Graduate Student Ambassadors (GSA) serve as role models and key representatives of the robust graduate student experience at the School of Public Affairs (SPA) at American University. The position requires enthusiastic, articulate, highly organized, versatile, and extremely dependable individuals who are able to represent SPA to prospective students in support of the graduate admissions operation. Candidates must be team-oriented, self-directed, and can work well in a fast paced, multi-task environment. Attention to detail is essential as well as familiarity with or the willingness to learn new computer programs such as Microsoft Excel and the campus’ Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms, Recruit and Salesforce, as well as a high degree of sensitivity to the handling of confidential information.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
The applicant must be able to commit between 5-10 hours per week on-campus over the 2024 summer terms.
Salary Range:
The rate of pay will be $17.85 an hour.
Ambassador Eligibility Requirements:
Full- or part-time enrollment in one of SPA’s on-campus master’s degree programs.
Mandatory attendance at GSA Orientation.
Good academic standing (3.0 and above).
Ambassador Responsibilities and Expectations:
Participate in Ambassador training and any additional, required trainings related to recruitment initiatives.
Attend Ambassador and/or other relevant meetings.
Will support virtual, campus visit process including planning, execution, and follow- up with prospective students.
Monitor the spainfo@american.edu inbox and online live chat feature and offer timely, professional response(s) as approved by supervision.
Enter prospective student information in the CRM.
Establish and/or maintain relationships with prospective students utilizing various mediums (written, online, social).
Work closely with admissions staff on special projects (e.g. admission congratulations and missing items calls, research projects) related to prospective student recruitment.
Assist with planning, implementation, and execution of recruitment/conversion events like:
JumpStart (On-Campus) – June 13 & June 14, 2024
(*Please note the dates of JumpStart and consider attendance mandatory.)
Assist in the research, logistical planning, preparations and follow-up related to recruitment fairs/initiatives.
Be knowledgeable of academic programs as well as student life so the full graduate student experience is shared credibly with prospective students and influencers.
Represent SPA & AU professionally via on-campus and online presentation and decorum.
Other duties as relevant and assigned.
Time Commitment:
Ambassadors will work, 5-10 hours a week on-campus over the Summer terms (Summer start and completion dates are negotiable) and will have the privilege of establishing a work schedule that prioritizes both academic and other professional demands.
Evening and some weekend work hours are required.
Extended work hours will be requested for major recruitment events (can shift hours if needed to support these events).
