Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
The Educator/Tester offers and performs point-of-care (POC) testing, such as HIV and HCV screenings, on eligible patients, delivers test results, and performs tasks for lab-based testing, including confirmatory testing, and links patients to medical care. This position educates patients on infections and diseases as well as supports available within the community and Eskenazi Health and serves as a resource to providers in the ED and other applicable locations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- POC Testing: administers and analyzes rapid POC tests, delivers test results, provides appropriate follow-up care; educates patients about applicable diseases, transmission methods, harm reduction behaviors, and community resources help reduce exposure to infectious and communicable diseases
- Referrals: assess patients’ HIV medical needs and involvement in medical care; refers patients to ID care for linkage-to-care; refers patients to prevention services such as PEP and/or PrEP in addition to other medical services as needed
- Engagement: engages a diverse group of patients; collaborates with a diverse group of ED and clinical colleagues; advises providers on current HIV related protocols as well as other related diseases
- Organizations: maintains accurate and detailed testing logs, appropriately documents testing information into EMR and applicable databases; restocks work station; cleans/maintains clean work station

Job Requirements
- External
- High school diploma or GED required
- 3-5 years applicable work experience
- Internal
- Successfully completes, passes, and maintains the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) HIV Prevention Counselor Certification Course within three months of employment unless discussed otherwise
- Completes HIV Clinical Education and maintains annual compliance
- Completes appropriate training for POC Screening
