Salary Range: The appointment is for an Access Services Librarian for a renewable 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty position (Temporary Full-Time Lecturer Librarian). The incumbent is expected to be at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian with rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Time base is up to full-time. (Equivalent to $7,127.00 – $8,000.00 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience).

The University Library supports the instructional and research needs of the campus community through its breadth and depth of collections, exceptional library faculty and staff-led services, and innovative use of library spaces. Currently, there are 19.5 full-time equivalent faculty members. Library faculty serve as subject-specialists and liaisons to CSULB's 63 academic departments and programs, collectively delivering over 800 instruction sessions a semester. We work independently and collaboratively to strengthen student information literacy skills through one-on-one consultations, one-shot instruction, embedded course instruction, and modular and scalable eLearning experiences. We ensure that library collections align with curricular needs and reflect emerging discipline-specific knowledge. The University library has one of the largest collections in the California State University System. It is 8th in the system for print collections, 4th largest in ongoing subscription access, and 6th in overall library budgets.
California State University Long Beach's University Library is a busy, teaching-oriented institution supporting a community of over 42,000 students as well as faculty and staff. We are seeking an Access Services Librarian to oversee the daily operations and long-term projects performed by our robust team of Access Services staff.
Reporting to the Dean of the Library, the Access Services Librarian provides substantive input in the organizational direction of Access Services in consultation with the Library’s Administrative Team. The incumbent is responsible for providing planning and oversight to multiple functional areas within the Access Services Department. These areas include Circulation, Interlibrary Loan Services, Reserves/Media Resources, Current Periodicals, and Microtext Services. They manage the operation of ORCA, the library’s automatic storage system. They are responsible for Access Services personnel, budgets, and day-to-day operations; participate in the development, recommendation, and administration of Access Services policies, procedures, and processes; and oversee the management and maintenance of physical spaces and equipment assigned to the department.
The Access Services Librarian works collaboratively with Technical Services lead and staff; fellow library faculty; and other internal library departments. They also work closely with a range of campus departments, community members, and external agencies and libraries. The incumbent advocates for department needs and promoting departmental expertise and resources internally, externally, and within the profession. The Access Services Librarian monitors academic and technological trends and developments in access services management and recommends appropriate adoption and implementation of new methods related to the functional areas within the department.
