Job Description

Purpose
To conduct vehicle-based measurement tests on all types of vehicles. This includes involvement in the whole process, from the initial customer contact, through quote compilation and follow-up, work planning, procedure/legislation research, issue of test instructions and instrumentation requirements, providing technical support to technicians and Engineer, in-depth data analysis using various software, test results presentation and reporting to customers and information provision for invoicing. The measurement tests may be legislative, involving liaison with certifying authorities.

Responsibilities

• Working within a team of 20 engineers and technicians to coordinate customer test activity.
• Provide technical support to other engineers on instrumentation, data collection and data analysis.
• Liaise with customers and devise test solutions to meet their specific requirements.
• Support the quotation process by providing detailed costings and technical content.
• Fully understand the customer requirements of test programs and communicate the requirements clearly to other staff.
• Liaise with other UTAC departments on cross company test activities.
• Conduct general test activities (some of which may be legislative).
• Assist develop test capabilities within a given subject area.
• Assist with operational and financial responsibilities as required.
• Support commercial team with technical content for quotations.
• Work with approval authorities on witnessed type approval testing.
• Assist in the design of new test techniques and put forward novel solutions to existing problems.
• Plan and organise time and resources to fulfil the requirements of each test program, including test facility bookings both on-site and off-site.
• Co-ordination and supervision of a small team of technicians.
• Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC staff at all times

Qualifications

Qualifications

• Hold a current UK car driving licence (additional categories advantageous).
• Computer literate with Microsoft Office applications.
• Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant Engineering discipline.

Other 

• Flexibility to support test activity both off-site and outside of normal working hours.
• Flexibility to travel inside and outside UK as and when required.  The initial 12 months of this role is likely to include significant regular travel to the UK south coast.
• Full UK driving licence (motorcycle, HGV or PSV advantageous)
• Own transport (UTAC Millbrook is not easily assessable via public transport)
• SC clearance or ability to achieve this (UK national with residency in the UK for the last 5 years)
• Willing to undergo a criminal disclosure check
