Our Approach to 1:1 Mild/Moderate Special Education Paraprofessional Support
At RMP, 1:1 Mild/Moderate Special Education Paraprofessionals serve as dedicated advocates for an individual scholar, ensuring they have consistent, personalized support to access rigorous, joyful learning every day. Grounded in Rocky Mountain Prep’s commitment to equity, love, and high expectations, you implement IEP-aligned accommodations, modifications, and targeted interventions tailored to your assigned scholar’s unique strengths and needs. You provide proactive academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support, reinforce structured routines, and intentionally build skills that foster independence over time. Through strong partnership with teachers, service providers, and families, you help create a safe, inclusive environment where your scholar feels seen, valued, and empowered. With patience, consistency, and an unwavering belief in their potential, you play a critical role in helping your scholar grow in confidence, self-advocacy, and long-term success.
1:1 Mild/Moderate Special Education Paraprofessionals at Rocky Mountain Prep will...
- Support instruction and student learning by implementing lesson plans, providing accommodations/modifications, collecting data, and working with individuals or small groups under teacher direction.
- Reinforce routines, behavior expectations, and social-emotional skills to promote student independence and uphold classroom and school-wide systems.
- Supervise students to ensure safety during all parts of the school day, including transitions, lunch, recess, and arrival/dismissal.
- Collaborate and communicate professionally with lead teachers, school staff, and families to support student success and school goals.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and equity-minded practices that honor student dignity and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.
- Implement IEP accommodations, modifications, and behavior plans or supports
- Collect data or observations and complete required documentation (academic, behavioral, or functional)as directed (even if not formally tied to an IEP)
- Demonstrates self-direction and initiative by proactively supporting the assigned student’s academic, behavioral, communication, and daily living needs across general education, autism center, and special education settings
- Remains flexible and adaptable in fast-paced environments, using creative problem-solving and individualized de-escalation strategies to adjust supports, proximity, and approaches based on student regulation and instructional goals
- Responds positively to feedback from teachers and service providers by consistently implementing individualized plans, refining supports, and improving student outcomes
- Implements individualized supports, including AAC systems, visual schedules, sensory plans, and personal care tasks (e.g., toileting, hygiene), while maintaining student dignity and safety
