Job Overview
Macy's is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Director of Business Development to join our Corporate Partnerships team. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing new corporate clients in areas including CPG, entertainment, tech, finance, hospitality and financial industries. You’ll focus on driving new revenue and growing partnerships for Macy’s signature tentpole events (e.g., Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Fourth of July Fireworks), in-store experiences, window displays, and other high-impact initiatives. This position requires a strategic thinker with a strong network, excellent negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of brand partnerships and experiential marketing.
What You Will Do
- New Business Development: Identify and engage with potential new clients and partners across CPG, entertainment, tech, finance, hospitality and financial industries to create strategic partnerships that align with Macy’s brand, our iconic events and customer experiences.
- Strategic Partnership Management: Develop and maintain long-term relationships with key stakeholders in corporate brands, agencies, and businesses, focusing on driving growth and innovation across Macy’s tentpole events and in-store experiences.
- Partnership Strategy & Execution: Lead the creation and execution of partnership strategies that maximize value for Macy’s and our partners, ensuring alignment with business goals, brand values, and customer experience.
- Revenue Generation: Drive revenue growth by structuring and negotiating high-impact partnership agreements, including sponsorships, collaborations, and experiential activations related to key Macy's events (e.g., Thanksgiving Day Parade, Fourth of July Fireworks, windows, in-store activations, etc.) and other high-impact experiences.
- Collaborative Leadership: Work closely with internal teams, including Macy’s Media Network, Macy’s Parade Studio, store activation teams and merchandising to build integrated programs that maximize the impact to the total business.
- Market Insights & Trends: Stay informed on industry trends, competitive landscape, and consumer behaviors in the CPG, entertainment, and tech sectors to identify new partnership opportunities and continuously innovate.
- Reporting & Analysis: Track and analyze partnership performance metrics, providing actionable insights and recommendations for future opportunities.
- Client Tracking System: Develop and maintain a comprehensive tracking system to document client conversations, partnership progress, and follow-ups. Ensure timely communication of updates and key developments to internal stakeholders to facilitate alignment and decision-making.
- Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
- In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.
Skills You Will Need
- 7+ years of experience in business development, sponsorship sales, client service management, corporate partnerships, or experiential marketing, preferably within CPG, entertainment, tech, or consumer brands.
- Strong experience in securing and managing high-level partnerships, particularly related to large-scale events and brand activations.
- Demonstrated success in driving revenue through strategic partnership negotiations and innovative solutions.
- Experience prospecting and pitching leads through cold calling,
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of an organization.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple initiatives while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
