Job Description

Consulting & Technical Expertise

• Facilitate Process Hazard Analysis studies with knowledge of various methodologies (What-if, HAZOP, FMEA, Bowtie, Etc.)
• Participate and lead process safety audits.
• Ability to research design codes and standards for various processes.
• Develop and implement process safety management programs. Develop standard operating procedures for process safety systems.
• Develop and implement process safety training programs.
• Advise clients on regulatory compliance (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP,) and best practices in industrial safety (CCPS, NFPA, API).
• Investigate incidents and provide root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations.

Client Engagement

• Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, providing strategic guidance and actionable solutions.
• Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and training materials tailored to client needs.
• Lead workshops and training sessions on safety topics, including process hazard analysis and occupational risk management.

Project & Team Leadership

• Manage multiple client projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes.
• Mentor junior consultants and contribute to team development and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated consulting solutions.

Business Development

• Identify opportunities to expand services with existing clients and attract new business.
• Support proposal development, pricing strategies, and client presentations.
• Represent J.S. Held at industry events and contribute to thought leadership initiatives.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Health & Safety, or a related field.
• Professional certifications such as CSP, CCPSC, CPSA, P.E., or equivalent are highly desirable.

Technical Expertise

• Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, API, NFPA).
• Understanding of combustible dust risks and associated consensus standards (NFPA 68, 69, 660, etc.)

• Knowledge of various Process Hazard Analysis methodologies (What-if, HAZOP, FMEA, Bowtie, Etc.).

• Proficiency in developing and implementing process safety management systems and process hazard analysis protocols.
• Ability to understand, interpret, and apply design codes and standards for various processes.
• Understanding of the 14 elements of Process Safety Management rule as well as the EPA RMP rules.

Physical and Mental Job Qualifications

• Most duties performed on feet. 
• Able to carry equipment, as much as 30lbs unassisted. 
• Push or pull items. 
• Able to reach above head. 
• Able to bend at the knee. 
• Able to climb ladders to reach high areas. 
• Able to wear a self-contained breathing apparatus. 
• Able to squat, kneel or crouch in confined spaces when necessary. 
• Able to detect burning sensations on skin etc. 
• Vision must be correctable to at least 20:40 with ability to distinguish colors with good depth perception and peripheral vision.
