As a Senior Software Engineer in our Americas hub, you won't just be writing code; you'll be building the future of international finance. You'll join one of our core product engineering teams, taking ownership of critical systems that empower millions of people and businesses to move, spend, and manage money more easily and affordably.

You could be working on anything from a customer's very first transfer to the complex backend systems that move billions of dollars securely and efficiently every day. Meet a Few of Our Teams in Austin

This advertisement represents openings across several of our core teams. While you'll interview for a general Software Engineer role, your work could fall into one of these crucial areas:

• Money Movement: This team is the engine for our North American customers. You'll build and maintain the highly scalable and resilient systems that facilitate USD and CAD transfers. The focus is on integrating with banking partners, automating workflows, reducing risk, and developing new features for USD, the biggest currency at Wise.

• Wise Account: This team builds the foundational infrastructure that lets millions of customers hold, manage, and spend money in over 40 currencies. They own the MCA for USD and CAD detail. You will develop our Interest and Assets product, allowing our customers grow their money.

• First Transfer Experience: This team is obsessed with growth and new customer journey. You'll work to improve the send money conversion rate for new US customers by clarifying our product proposition, streamlining the onboarding funnel, and experimenting with promotional pricing. This team does it all, from making our home page better, creating a more seamless onboarding flow, to ease of payment finalization.

• Direct Debit Experience: This team owns the health and experience of critical payment methods like ACH (USD) and EFT (CAD). This team handles the payment method which is responsible for more than 75% of Wise’s USD volume. You will tackle challenges across the full lifecycle of a direct debit payment—from the front-end flow for connecting a bank account to the complex backend decisions around fraud detection, chargeback prevention, and payment speed.

Here's what you'll be doing:

• Design, build, and maintain reliable, scalable software solutions using Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful services.

• Take ownership of complex problems, from optimizing a high-traffic onboarding flow to engineering the backend logic for fraud detection or payment routing.

• Work closely with product managers, analysts, and operations teams in a cross-functional, autonomous environment to prioritize and deliver customer-centric projects.

• Champion high engineering standards, mentor other engineers, and drive technical discussions through thoughtful code reviews and architectural design sessions.

• Utilize Docker and Kubernetes for deployments and enhance our development process with robust CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Gradle).

• Engage in query optimization and schema design for relational databases like PostgreSQL and MySQL to ensure data is processed efficiently and reliably.

• Apply your knowledge of distributed systems and integration patterns to build solutions that are resilient, scalable, an
