Position Overview

Under direction of the Superintendent(s) serves as Labor Relations Advisor for Illinois School of the Deaf (ISD) and Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI). This position directs and administers the Workers’ Compensation and Risk Management Programs for ISD and ISVI for extended benefit and temporary total disability claims. Responsible for the overall administrative supervision of physical plant, building maintenance, grounds, security, transportation, and housekeeping programs for Illinois School for the Deaf (ISD) and serves as full-line supervisor. Monitors physical operations of the school to ensure safety and efficiency. Utilizes personal computer software to create a variety of reports from computers database at both schools. Serves as liaison for EEO/Affirmative Action Officer for ISD and ISVI. Utilizes sign language in the performance of duties. Serves as the Title IX liaison at both ISD/ISVI for DRS.  Travels in the performance of duties.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Serves as the Labor Relations Advisor for Illinois School for the Deaf (ISD) and Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI).
  2. Directs and administers the Workers’ Compensation and Risk Management Programs for ISD and ISVI for extended benefit and temporary total disability claims.
  3. Responsible for the overall administrative supervision of physical plant, building maintenance, grounds, security, transportation, and housekeeping programs for Illinois School for the Deaf (ISD). 
  4. Serves as full-line supervisor.
  5. Monitors physical operations of the school to ensure safety and efficiency.
  6. Serves as liaison for Title IX for ISD and ISVI.
  7. Serves as liaison for EEO/Affirmative Action Officer for ISD and ISVI.
  8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with course work in business or public administration.
  2. Requires three (3) years progressively responsible administrative experience in public or private organization. 
  3. Requires the ability to communicate in sign language at the Intermediate level.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Two (2) years of professional experience working with labor relations rules and collective bargaining contracts. 
  2. Two (2) years of professional experience communicating effectively (written and oral) to identify and resolve human resources issues and adopt efficient and effective course(s) of action.  
  3. One (1) year of professional experience working within the field of human resources and being responsible for Workers’ Compensation and Risk Management Programs for extended benefit and temporary total disability claims, state and federal requirements, policies, procedures, and practices for a public or private organization 
  4. One (1) year of professional experience with building operations, maintenance/service agreements, and physical operations. 
  5. Two (2) years of professional experience communicating effectively (written and oral) to identify and resolve human resources issues and adopt efficient and effective course(s) of action.
  6. Two (2) years of professional experience in supervising and managing personnel, assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending, and implementing counseling
