About the role

The Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Physician provides support to the Associate Program Director to ensure the quality of the Sports Medicine program. Must have good listening and decision-making skills; consistently demonstrates sound judgment and critical thinking with the ability to rehabilitate the patient. Exhibits confidence when instructing injured patient and has the ability to closely monitor the entire rehabilitation process.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for providing Sports Medicine/ Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation services to Center patients and assures that the mission and vision of CommuniCare is communicated and practiced at all times. 

2. Preform EMG/NCV testing and pain management procedures.

3. Evaluates injured patients / athletes prior to sports participation to determine predisposition to injury. Ensures the quality of care provided is of the highest caliber.

4. Provides comprehensive diagnoses and treatment of sports or activity related injury. Uses manual techniques to prevent and treat muscular and skeletal conditions.

5. Examines, diagnoses, treats and/or refers patients for appropriate care services and any other ancillary services that are appropriate for patient’s management and care. Prescribes pharmaceuticals and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.  

6. Reviews PAQ’s (lab and x-ray reports) and clinical task boxes on a timely basis and make medical management decisions appropriately.

7. Maintains appropriate productivity standards of specialty as established by the Center; maintains appropriate and efficient patient flow and minimize schedule changes and absences.  

8. Provides excellent internal/external customer service via telephone, electronically, fax or face-to-face contact to assist patients with their health care needs.  

9. Follows established departmental and clinic policies, procedures, and objectives; continuous quality improvements objectives and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.  

10. Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited U.S. Medical School  

Must possess a current unrestricted license to practice Medicine in the State of Texas

Residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine 

Board certification or Board eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine

Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine preferred

Annual continuing medical education as required by Board specialty

Current DEA, and other such certificates to legally operate as a practitioner in the State of Texas

Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team including psychologists, nutritionists, GPs and coaches

Thorough understanding of sports culture and the ability to display sound judgment

Hospital privileges at designated area hospitals if required for specialty

Excellent communication skills in English

Strong general computer and organizational skills

Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Instructor-Led by American Heart Association

REQUIRED PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

Finger Dexterity: Using fingers to make small movements such as typing or picking up small objects.  Normal fine and gross motor control of fingers and hands.

Talking: Frequently conveying detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, clearly, or quickly.

Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information; hear whispered voice at five (5) feet.

Repetitive Motions: Frequently and regularly using the wrists, hands, and fingers.

Visual: Visual acuity necessary for the proper evaluation of a patient and to prepare or inspect documents or other materials.  Ability to accurately view computer monitors.

Physical: Sitting 20-30% of time and standing, walking 70-80% of time. Lift up to 25 lbs; push and pull up to 45 lbs.  Able to bend at the waist, twist and turn along axial plane.
