The General Maintenance Worker performs unskilled and skilled labor in construction and maintenance activities on District flood control structures, committed to minimizing environmental impacts while enhancing the quality of life for residents living near them. In addition to providing flood protection, the Flood Control District offers attractive, multi-use amenities that blend with the desert surroundings, including hiking trails, bike pathways, and open space to be enjoyed by the residents of Maricopa County.

We Require

  • High school diploma or GED

  • One year of general maintenance work experience

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license by the time of hire

We Also Value

  • Three or more years of general maintenance experience 

  • Experience working in the public sector

  • Knowledge of landscape and roadway maintenance and repair methods, and materials

  • Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations involved in truck and equipment operations

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions, and First Aid

  • Skill to safely and efficiently operate and maintain trucks and equipment in accordance with standard operating and safety procedures

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

  • Ability to use a personal computer

Job Contributions

  • Perform manual labor assignments in the building and maintenance and repair of roadways and Flood Control structures; maintain landscaping and clear brush and debris from roadways, structures, and facilities

  • Operate a variety of trucks, equipment, and hand tools in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures

  • Perform traffic control activities as needed; report safety hazards; perform tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies

  • Load and unload materials, supplies, and equipment, and deliver to job sites as directed

  • Perform other duties as assigned or required

Working Conditions

  • Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vi
