Maintenance Mechanic Helper - FT - Day Shift

HOURLY RANGE: $20.687 - $28.057

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs a variety of semi-skilled manual work in the maintenance and repair of County building department or institution; does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Works under the supervision of a supervisory employee who assigns and reviews work for conformance with standards.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)

• Performs and assists with the work of a skilled trade to a limited extent, such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, plastering, mechanical and electrical work;
• Erects scaffolds, paints walls, furniture, exteriors and washes walls;
• Repairs pipe lines, toilets, plumbing fixtures, and equipment;
• Cleans boilers, lubricates equipment, adjusts motors, pumps and other mechanical equipment;
• Repairs and refinishes furniture, floors, ironwork, trucks, cabinets, desks and tables; welds parts together;
• Mixes concrete, erects scaffolds, pours cement; wheels and carts bricks and supplies; tears down walls and partitions;
• Assists with the installation and repair of electrical systems; repairs switches, replaces fuses, adjusts motors; tests equipment;
• Operates power and hand tools such as drills, saw lathes, grinders, sanders, cutter, crimpers and tools such as wrenches, hammers, saws, shovels and other miscellaneous tools;
• Maintains work area in clean and orderly condition as well as tools and equipment;
• Performs other maintenance and repair work on equipment as required in assisting with the upkeep of a building.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Good knowledge of the maintenance and repair of machinery, plumbing, fixtures and equipment; ability to make routine repairs and adjustments to a variety of mechanical equipment; ability to understand and follow routine oral and written instructions; ability to get along well with others; mechanical aptitude; manual dexterity; industry and dependability; good physical conditions.

ACCEPTABLE TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Completion of elementary education and at least one year experience in one of the skilled trades.
