Position Summary
The Romney Institute of Public Service and Ethics in the BYU Marriott School of Business seeks a part-time adjunct faculty member to teach MPA 640: Human Resource Management. This graduate-level course serves students preparing for leadership roles in government, nonprofit organizations, and other public-service settings.
The successful candidate will help students understand and apply human resource management principles within the distinctive legal, organizational, and ethical environments of public and nonprofit service.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and deliver engaging, graduate-level instruction in human resource management for public and nonprofit organizations.
Teach students to connect organizational purpose, talent management, employment systems, and desired organizational outcomes.
Help students analyze civil service, career service, and at-will employment systems.
Guide students in understanding employee due process, public employment rights, and relevant employment and labor laws.
Use cases, discussions, presentations, and applied exercises to develop students’ judgment and decision-making.
Integrate principles of ethical leadership and thoughtful connections between faith and professional practice, consistent with the mission of BYU.
Provide timely, detailed, and constructive feedback on major writing and communication assignments.
Mentor students through individual writing projects, team case presentations, and employment-related communication projects.
Help students strengthen professional writing, oral presentation, and standard U.S. English grammar and usage skills.
Evaluate student performance fairly and maintain accurate course and grading records.
Coordinate as needed with institute faculty and program leadership to support course and program learning objectives.
Create a respectful, rigorous, and inclusive learning environment for graduate students preparing to serve diverse communities.
Required Qualifications
A completed master’s degree in business, public administration, human resource management, organizational leadership, writing, or a closely related field. The required degree must be completed by the position start date.
Demonstrated knowledge of human resource management and organizational leadership principles.
Ability to teach graduate students effectively in an in-person classroom environment.
Strong professional writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to provide detailed feedback and individualized student mentoring.
Commitment to the mission and values of Brigham Young University and the BYU Marriott School of Business.

Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience at the college or graduate level.
Professional experience in government, nonprofit management, human resources, employment law, consulting, writing, or organizational leadership.
Experience with public-sector employment systems, including civil service, career service, at-will employment, and employee due process.
Experience facilitating case-based learning, team presentations, and applied professional projects.
Evidence of effective mentoring, coaching, or development of graduate students or working professionals.
