Systems Engineer II - Mission Training Team (Onsite)

“Train Like You Fight, and Fight Like You Train” When a fighter pilot engages a real threat, the quality of their training can determine whether the mission succeeds or fails.  Our pilots need effective, realistic training to prepare for the threats they face today – and those they may have to face tomorrow.

The Air Combat Test & Training (ACTT)  Engineering Department specializes in developing state-of-the-art products for cryptographic, datalink, networking, and command and control applications. Focused on U.S. military communication systems, navigation systems, and networks, we guide products from concept phase through accreditation to factory production. This includes design, analysis, test, and certification, integrating them into the Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) Training Environment. Positioned in the Mission Systems business unit, our role involves addressing challenges such as developing next-generation secure aircraft instrumentation for the next generation, LVC for test and training, and crafting product roadmaps and architectures.

The Mission Training Systems Engineering Team within ACTT is looking for a Systems Engineer II to join our team as we provide technical excellence in a rapidly growing Air Combat Training market for system of systems requirements, design, verification, accreditation, and sustainment efforts. As a platform-level systems team, we have direct customer and end-user interaction and coordination across subsystem teams and stakeholders. Our team culture is highly collaborative and uses a tailored version of the Scaled Agile Framework to meet our program goals. This role is located onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA.

What you will do:

  • Collect data and perform standard analysis of data, identifying findings as appropriate.
  • Perform analysis at all levels of the total system product including concept, design, fabrication, modeling, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
  • Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
  • Consider and evaluate alternative accounting for similar metrics.
  • Follow configuration process, perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, and provide input on trade studies.
  • Conduct requirement allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

What you will learn:

  • You will gain platform systems level experience on a complex system of systems scale program working with the platform systems engineering team.
  • You will gain exposure to multiple key technologies with opportunities to develop subject matter expertise in related areas.
  • You will have opportunities to influence and enrich the department culture as we continuously look to improve.
