What Pharmacy Support contributes to Cardinal Health
Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers. Pharmacy Support is responsible for performing clerical functions to support retail or health system pharmacy business operations.
Job Summary
Cardinal Health manages the pharmacy at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN and we are currently recruiting for a pharmacy support specialist. The pharmacy support specialist provides overall leadership, direction and management of all finance and business processes. Also coordinates gathering and dissemination of financial and other information as needed. Works closely with Director of Pharmacy (DOP) Assistant Director of Pharmacy (ADOP), Clinical Manager, pharmacy personnel, financial managers, and account managers. Supervises or co-supervises buyers, pharmacy technicians, and Interns. Responsible for ensuring standard operating procedures are established and followed for each area covered by 340B and analyzing those purchases and monthly reports. Responsible for ensuring that regulatory requirements and policies/procedures are met including federal, state, Joint Commission, Cardinal, and Covenant Health by performing supervisory, regulatory, quality, and administrative tasks in the pharmacy department.
Responsibilities
Will work closely with the Buyer to maintain processes to optimize purchasing and inventory control, minimize pharmaceutical waste, and respond to drug shortages and drug recalls in a timely manner.
Alerts the DOP and ADOP of changes in buying trends, including unusual use of drugs and use of new costly drugs.
Oversees business and fiscal management functions.
Oversees management of technician staff.
Understands and maintains the standards set by the Drug Supply Chain and Security Act (DSCSA).
Assures all medication transfers are reconciled monthly and reported appropriately.
Coordinates the physical inventory and inventory validation.
Reviews monthly inventory builds and burns and reports to DOP and ADOP.
Assists in supervising pharmacy billing. Ensures that patient charges and credits are done promptly and accurately. Monitors daily charge reconciliation reports and adjusts charges as necessary.
Assists DOP and ADOP in conducting Purchasing Analysis using P vs U Analysis.
Coordinates the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, information reports, annual budget, and capital budget. Submits capital equipment requests and, as needed, oversees capital equipment installations.
PPA preparation of financial section.
Prepares financial reports and special analyses for meetings and Business Reviews.
Oversees the Departmental / Clinic Charging (IDB) and monthly summary reports.
Works within the standard operating procedures/policies and procedures established for each area covered by 340B.
Maintains knowledge and effectiveness in 340B split billing software.
Maintains crosswalk between 340B split billing software and Pharmacy Operating System.
Assists in providing orientation, training, supervision, and evaluation of pharmacy technicians. May participate in peer interview process.
Assists staff technicians and buyer when needed.
Participates in monthly rounding on technical staff in the department. Prepares stoplight report, follows up with each process improvement idea, and submits rounding report to DOP and ADOP. Maintains quality assurance activity files and updates the Pharmacy communication board.
Assists DOP, ADOP, Clinical Manager, and other leaders with ADC, CPOE, and other technology reports and analysis.
Monitors Pharmacist and Technician staff compliance with Covenant Health and Cardinal Health educational requirements, licensure / certification requirements, and attendance requirements. Maintains all personnel files.
Assists Pharmacy Management with departmental compliance with Joint Commission standards, DEA regulations, State and Federal Pharmacy Laws, USP, and ASHP Residency requirements.
Adheres to all rules and regulations of controlled substance handling and dispensing. Reviews weekly automated dispensing cabinet narcotic inventory report for compliance with institution’s policy. Sends monthly compliance report to nurse managers and institution management.
