OnsiteThe Collins Aerospace team seeks a Principal Project Engineer to support the CNS (Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance) Weather Radar department. The Weather Radar group supports, integrates, and develops multiple commercial avionics products for the Air Transport and Business and Regional aircraft markets developing new and next generation advanced weather radar systems.
Candidates are expected to be an active member of a cross-functional team during all phases of an engineering system development project. Successful candidates are expected to work closely with the Software, Systems, and Hardware teams, as well as the Technical Project Manager. The Project Engineer will be leading the project through the phases of software and system development, product certification, managing budget, schedule, and planning, as well as interfacing with management. This involves assigning tasks to individuals and teams, tracking them to completion, and managing the inter-dependencies on the project and with the collateral team.
What You Will Do:
Project Planning, i.e., project schedule, project budget, milestone tracking, metrics
Serve as cross-functional project engineer interfacing with Systems, Hardware, Software and Collateral teams
Experience in identifying, managing, and mitigating dependencies and risks between cross functional teams
Present project status to management, assign tasks to team members and track team progress
Mentor product development teams in the utilization of the appropriate processes and tools during product development, thus increasing product quality and improving customer satisfaction
Develop engineering estimates for Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) and Bid proposals, using applicable enterprise estimation tools, for components and area of expertise. May lead cross-functional/domain teams in a Project Engineering role
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
5+ years of experience with project cost/schedule/performance management, using Earned Value (EV)
Experience with proposal effort coordination, including parametric estimating, bidding, narrative writing, risk identification, and technical leadership
The PE must ensure that the multi-disciplined teams are following the defined technical, safety, quality and project guidelines
Strong technical background in the primary core competencies, Systems, Hardware, Software, Verification, Integration or Test
Ability to ensure the project is performing to schedule and cost targets as defined in the project plans and providing predictive performance data to the TPM and Program Management team during regular cadence reviews
Ability to liaise with customer representatives regarding the definition of interfaces with the system’s operating environment, coordinate and track the delivery of customer and all required documentation to meet defined milestones
Qualifications We Prefer:
Experience with FAA certification and safety process, TSO and Type Certification
Experience interfacing with Boeing and Airbus
Experience with DO-160 standard for environmental testing of avionics
Understand impact of meeting ARP-4754A, DO-178C and DO-254 to the development lifecycle
Ability to monitor and report the performance management of suppliers or support teams who are operating under Statements of Work (SOWs)
Demonstrated experience in avionics system or product development including requirements capture/analysis, design, integration, verification/validation, and certification processes
