We have a bold mission. We are a bold company. Together, we are an extraordinary team.

About the Role

Do you enjoy designing and developing innovative solutions to solve tough problems? Join our team to deliver technological solutions in a rapid and agile production environment. Our Mechanical engineers research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and improve cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll conceptualize and deliver complex mechanical structures and systems and your technical duties include the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.

Sierra Space’s Orbital Missions and Services (OMS) division focuses on the design, build, and operations of small satellites in support of commercial services and national security space and offers two work locations: Louisville, Colorado and Centennial, Colorado. We are seeking a Propulsion Engineer Lead that will contribute to the growth and development of our core spacecraft products. You will work across a variety of programs, apply different propulsion technologies, and have a direct influence on both commercial and national security missions. You will provide ownership of the propulsion subsystem through its lifecycle, develop subsystem requirements, perform subsystem verifications, work with propulsion hardware suppliers, and perform mission calculations as they relate to the propulsion subsystem.

  • Active Top Secret US government security clearance with SCI and SAP eligibility

Strongly preferred:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in space product propulsion
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical, pneumatic, hypergolic systems
  • Proficiency in identifying propulsion subsystem requirements and performing verification
  • Experience with propulsion subcomponent or pressurized components (valves, regulators, tubes, pipes) development, design and test
  • Proficiency in Solidworks or similar CAD tools
  • Proficiency in fluids simulation tools

Preferred:

  • Experience applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
  • Understanding of Engineering Simulation such as Finite Element structural analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Thermal Analysis
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
  • Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing, and production processes
